When Obafemi Martins scores, the Seattle Sounders don’t lose and, luckily for the Sounders, Martins did plenty of scoring throughout the month of September.
The Nigerian forward scored five September goals, extending the Sounders streak to 11-0-0 when Martins finds the back of the net. Martins goalscoring form was enough to keep the Sounders in the Supporters’ Shield race and earn the star forward recognition as SBI MLS Player of the Month.
September opened with a bang for Martins, who scored a pair of goals in a 4-2 victory over Chivas USA before adding another in a victory over Real Salt Lake. Two goalless games followed before Martins exploded against Chivas USA yet again by scoring a pair and adding an assist as the cherry on top of a spectacular month.
Martins beat out a talented field of MLS stars, including Lee Nguyen, Landon Donovan and Diego Valeri, for September’s honors.
