Clint Dempsey remains in pursuit of Landon Donovan’s all-time U.S. Men’s National Team scoring record, but Dempsey could level Donovan in another area that yields a significant piece of hardware.
Dempsey is one of five nominees for the 2015 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year award, which will be unveiled on Friday. Joining Dempsey on the list of nominees are Michael Bradley, Brad Guzan, Fabian Johnson, and DeAndre Yedlin.
The nomination could see Dempsey recognized with his fourth Male Player of the Year award, a mark that would see the Seattle Sounders forward match Donovan’s tally. Bradley, meanwhile, is looking for his first win following three prior nominations, while Johnson earns his second consecutive nomination.
Yedlin is among the nominees just one year after claiming the U.S. Soccer Young Male Player of the Year award, which will announce its latest winner on Friday. Headlining those shortlisted for that accolade are two returning nominees, Emerson Hyndman and Christian Pulisic, as well as Cameron Carter-Vickers, Matt Miazga, and Gedion Zelalem.
What do you think of the nominees for Male Player and Young Male Player of the Year? Any snubs? Who do you see as favorites to take home the awards?
