MLS Ticker: Hines scores four, Koval waived and more

The MLS preseason came to an end on Saturday, and it ended in spectacular fashion as a defender scored four goals against Brazilian competition.

Centerback Seb Hines scored four goals to lead Orlando City SC to a 6-1 rout of Brazilian club Esporte Clube Bahia. Darwin Cerén and Pedro Ribeiro scored the Lions’ other two goals. (REPORT)

The San Jose Earthquakes announced the waiver of midfielder JJ Koval on Saturday. The 23-year-old appeared in 39 games in two seasons with the Western Conference club. (REPORT)

Luke Mulholland, who recently suffered a quadricep injury, said he is “confident” he will be available for Real Salt Lake’s CONCACAF Champions League second leg contest at Rio Tinto Stadium on Wednesday. The MLS club currently trails Liga MX club Tigres UANL, 2-0. (REPORT)

The Portland Timbers fell to the Chicago Fire, 2-0, at Providence Park. Arturo Alvarez and Gilberto netted the two road goals for the Fire. (REPORT)

The Colorado Rapids took down USL side Arizona United SC, 3-0. Shkëlzen Gashi and Kevin Doyle scored, while Julian Ringhof netted an own goal. (REPORT)
