Huddersfield Town and David Wagner earned a dramatic win in the Yorkshire derby on Sunday, but it came at a price.
Huddersfield and Wagner were both charged on Tuesday due to the German-American’s celebration after his team scored a late winner against Leeds United.
Wagner then clashed with Leeds manager Garry Monk in the technical area, which sparked a small altercation between both teams.
Monk and Leeds were also charged for failing “to ensure their players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour, contrary to FA Rule E20(a).”
Wagner’s Huddersfield is currently fourth place in the Championship, one point above Monk and Leeds in fifth.
Didn’t Klopp do something similar? Was he charged?
And he was just a tad outside of his technical area . . .
Seriously, I can see a light punishment for Wagner, but Monk deserves a heavier punishment for the silly passive-aggressive bump as Wagner came by.
I agree with your take. Monk escalated that situation to a level that was silly.
“It is alleged that in or around the 89th minute of the fixture, the two clubs failed to ensure their players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour, contrary to FA Rule E20(a).”
I can understand being charged for the scuffle that happened after, but to call celebration “provocative behavior” is ridiculous. It’s the other coach who blocked his path and instigated the physical altercation. It seems the FA would have bigger issues to deal with than excessive exuberance from a coach…
Appears he had to run past the Leeds bench to join the celebration. That probably accounts for the provocative behavior.
