Borussia Moenchengladbach kicked off its Bundesliga schedule on Saturday and Joe Scally logged his first start at right back of the new season.

Scally played 84 minutes in Gladbach’s 3-1 home victory over Hoffenheim, handing Daniel Farke his first victory as Gladbach manager. The U.S. men’s national team defender hit the crossbar with one of his two shots on goal, while also winning three of his four duels defensively. Scally also completed one tackle, drew two fouls, and completed 86% of his passes (42/49), helping Gladbach overturn an early deficit to claim three points. The 19-year-old’s versatility could be key for Gladbach’s defense this season after he played as both a left and right back during the 2021-22 campaign.

In England, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams made their Leeds United debuts in a comeback EPL win over Wolves. Zack Steffen struggled in a EFL Championship loss to QPR while Lynden Gooch helped Sunderland defeat Bristol City away from home.

In Germany, Jordan Pefok scored his first Bundesliga goal for Union Berlin. Terrence Boyd scored once and assisted once in a 2-1 second division victory for Kaiserslautern.
