Bill Hamid’s time in MLS might be coming to an end, but the American goalkeeper will reportedly head abroad to continue his career in Scotland.
Dundee United is reportedly set to add Hamid as a free agent signing, The Courier reported Thursday. Hamid, 32, was not re-signed by D.C. United this offseason and is set to fight for the No. 1 job at Tannadice Park, according to the report.
Hamid spent 14 years with D.C. United in MLS, totaling over 200 appearances for the Eastern Conference club. Hamid was part of the D.C. United squad that won the U.S. Open Cup in 2013, and also was MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2014.
Hamid also spent two seasons with Danish side Midtjylland from 2018-2020 before returning to D.C. United. A move to Dundee United will reunite Hamid with former D.C. United teammate Ian Harkes, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
He earned eight caps for the U.S. men’s national team, winning Concacaf Gold Cup titles in 2013 and 2017.
Mark Birighitti and and Jack Newman have both featured in between the posts for Liam Fox’s squad this season, with Birighitti making 20 appearances to date. The Tangerines are in danger of suffering relegation this season, as they currently sit bottom of the Scottish Premiership table with 20 points earned.
Hamid isn’t expected to be part of the roster until after this weekend’s game against Ross County. Dundee United will also face Aberdeen, St. Mirren, and Rangers in the coming weeks.
