Paxten Aaronson joins Vitesse Arnhem on loan

Paxten Aaronson will head to the Dutch Eredivisie with hopes of earning consistent playing time.

Aaronson has joined Vitesse Arnhem on loan for the remainder of the current season, the club announced. The 20-year-old joined Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2022 from the Philadelphia Union, but has struggled to feature regularly for the Bundesliga side.

“I hope to make the necessary minutes to be so important to the team,” Aaronson said in a club interview. “The club, the city, the people: it feels good to be here! We are going to fight together for Vitesse.”

Aaronson has made seven league appearances and 14 combined appearances for Frankfurt this season. A former U.S. Under-20 men’s national team standout, Aaronson has registered three assists in 22 appearances (542 minutes played) for the Super Eagles.

A move to Vitesse should help Aaronson get back to playing regularly ahead of a potential busy summer on the international level. Aaronson, who made his senior USMNT debut in January 2023, is eligible to be part of the 2024 Olympic roster this summer.

Vitesse has struggled for majority of the current Eredivisie campaign, sitting bottom of the table and seven points from safety. They are also involved in February’s KNVB Cup quarterfinals.

  1. to me when this happens they calibrated their transfer wrong. overshot, trying to find the right level second try. didn’t understand why the older brother did austria first but he’s straight off to B.1.

    • The original plan was to play him on Frankfurt II, but when he got there he was too good for that level so he got some first team minutes. They got a new manager and that further complicated as he wanted to evaluate the roster and they also had a late signing of another young AM that took time from Pax. Frankfurt probably messed up by moving him up ahead of schedule.
