Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah got to savor their first trophy lift together with AC Milan on Monday night in Saudi Arabia.
Pulisic started and scored once while Musah played 77 minutes as AC Milan rallied to defeat rivals Inter 3-2 in the Italian Super Cup Final. It is the first joint trophy for the U.S. men’s national team duo since they moved to the Rossoneri.
”It’s amazing to win a trophy, my first with AC Milan, Pulisic said postmatch. “Not just to win it, but to do so in the way we did was great.
”We’ve worked really hard over the last few days This is what we have taken on, you saw it on the pitch, the way we’ve changed in both of the games.”
Sergio Conceicao’s squad had to rally in the second half though to pick up the victory.
Lautaro Martinez broke the deadlock for Inter in first-half stoppage time before Mehdi Taremi extended their lead two minutes into the second half.
Theo Hernandez’s direct free kick cut AC Milan’s deficit in half after 52 minutes before Pulisic tied the match with 10 minutes to go.
Hernandez’s cross from the left wing was gathered by Pulisic in the box before the USMNT star drilled a low shot into the bottom-right corner.
It marked back-to-back goalscoring performances for Pulisic.
”I took [the goal] well with my left foot,” Pulisic said. I’m thrilled to have scored and that we won it in the end.”
Tammy Abraham delivered the winning goal for the Rossoneri in the 93rd minute, giving AC Milan its first trophy since the 2021-22 Serie A title.
It marked Pulisic’s fifth trophy win at club level and Musah’s first.
AC Milan resumes league play on Saturday against Cagliari, seeking a surge up the table.
”We’ll also try and take confidence from winning this title onwards and we’ll celebrate properly,” Pulisic said.
