The San Jose Earthquakes didn’t figure to be a team that a rookie forward would be able to find many minutes with heading into the 2013 season, but a rash of injuries presented a golden opportunity for Stanford product Adam Jahn and last Sunday he made the most of it.
Jahn came off the bench in the second half of Sunday’s San Jose-New York Red Bulls match and made an immediate impact, scoring a classy goal before forcing a penalty call after having a header handled in the penalty area. The ensuing penalty kick helped the Earthquakes pull off a 2-1 comeback victory and helped make Jahn the easy pick for SBI MLS Rookie of the Week.
Jahn beat out New England defender Andrew Farrell and Colorado forward Deshorn Brown for this week’s honor.
The 15th player taken in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft, Jahn flew below the radar coming out of Stanford despite a standout career as one of the top forwards in the Pac-10. Jahn failed to receive an invitation to the MLS Combine, but his hometown Earthquakes invited him to camp and eventually signed him to a contract.
What did you think of Jahn’s performance against the Red Bulls? Seeing him earn a start in the next match? Which rookie impressed you the most in MLS Week Two?

Some players have the luck of being instant heroes with their teams, this is a good start for the kid.
Hope he traded jerseys with Miller
Davis CA showing up in MLS… first Jalil Anibaba now Adam Jahn.
Central Valley represent!
I checked out more on him and he had 5 goals in 6 appearances for the USA U-18’s….
Hopefully he keeps it up in MLS and the Senior team is in his future.
Yeah, he definitely earned a start, just put the Lenhart wig on him and he’s good to go. He’s a way better option than Fucito up top. Give Fucito or Garza a shot at flank mid…two games into the season and Salinas is already driving me nuts.
kid is rapidly taking his game to the next level
I didn’t even think he would make the Quakes roster out of camp. Hope he keeps it up!
I’m no earthquakes fan, but that finish was sublime
Unsure whether we’re going with “Wrath of Jahn” or “Word Is Jahn” for the kid.
My friend made up the former, I did the latter.
