Norwegian side Molde is headed to the UEFA Europa League group stage and American midfielder Christian Cappis will be joining them.

Cappis has joined the Eliteserien side on a season-long loan spell, both clubs announced Friday.

A source close to the player confirmed the original news to SBI on Thursday. The loan will run through the Eliteserien campaign and will not include a purchase option.

The 24-year-old missed most of Brondby’s summer camp due to an injury and only recently returned to the squad. A former FC Dallas academy player, Cappis joined Danish side Hobro in 2018 and proceeded to total 64 appearances, one goal, and six assists for the club.

Cappis joined Brondby in a permanent deal from Hobro in February 2021 and since has scored eight goals in 62 appearances for the club.

A former U.S. youth national team midfielder, Cappis has yet to earn his senior debut for the USMNT.

Molde dropped into the UEFA Europa League group stage after falling 5-3 in UCL qualifying to Turkish side Galatasaray.

They will face Bayer Leverkusen, Qarabag, and Hacken in the group stage, beginning this September.

  1. As my English friends would say ‘He’s a proper 6!’ There are plenty of US players playing DM. Don’t think GB cares, since we’ve seen Acosta as the backup 6 and as the 3rd Midfielder as well as LDT.
