Okugo, Navas named to U.S. Under-20 team for Dallas Cup

U.S. Under-20 national team head coach Thomas Rongen named a 20-man roster for the upcoming 2010 Dallas Cup in Frisco, Texas. Philadelphia Union midfielder Amobi Okugo and Houston Dynamo midfielder/forward Francisco Navas were among the players named to the squad.

Here is the team:

GOALKEEPERS: Justin Luthy (Boston College; Dublin, Ohio), Zac MacMath (Maryland; St. Petersburg, Fla.)

DEFENDERS: Chad Barson (Akron; Lewis Center, Ohio), Jesus Gonzalez (CZ Elite; Burbank, Calif.), Ian Hines-Ike (Chivas USA Academy; Littleton, Colo.), Tyler Polak (CSA Legacy; Lincoln, Neb.), Kofi Sarkodie (Akron; Huber Heights, Ohio), Zarek Valentin (Akron; Lancaster, Pa.), Jared Watts (Wake Forest; Statesville, N.C.)

MIDFIELDERS: Jose Altamirano (San Diego State; San Diego, Calif.), Bryan De La Fuente (Chivas USA Academy; Bell, Calif.), Ruben Gonzalez (Chivas USA; Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.), Amobi Okugo (Philadelphia Union; Sacramento, Calif.), Will Packwood (Birmingham City; Concord, Mass.), Dillon Powers (Notre Dame; Plano, Texas), Cesar Zamora (Chivas USA; Sylmar, Calif.)

FORWARDS: Will Bates (Virginia; Chester, Va.), Ryan Finley (Duke; Lumberton, N.J.), Francisco Navas Cobo (Houston Dynamo; Richmond, Texas), Moises Orozco (Tigres; Oxnard, Calif.)

The Under-20 team will begin play at the Dallas Cup against Mexico on Sunday, March 28th, the Vancouver Whitecaps on March 29 and Eintracht Frankfurt on March 31st. If the team advances from Dallas Cup Group play, the United States will play in the tournament semifinals on April 2 and final on April 4.

  1. From southern california, where I coach and know this age group better than anyone, only Jose Altamirano & Okugo are worthy.

    all have no business being on the national team.

    This is embarrasing! Our national teams are going nowhere. Why is Rongen still at the helm? We need heads to roll.

  2. He’s at Ipswich now. Got on the bench for their reserves but as of yet no playing time. Has until the end of the season to impress… Fingers crossed!
