According to reports from Europe, U.S. national team star and Los Angeles Galaxy striker Landon Donovan is close to heading to France this winter.

According to the French soccer website 10sport, Donovan is on the verge of a move to Paris St. Germain  after the current MLS season. Reports suggest that an official announcement is coming shortly. Whether the move will be a loan or a transfer remains unclear, though one source tells SBI it could be either at this point as negotiations are still on-going.

The proposed move would mark the second straight winter Donovan has spent in Europe after being loaned out to Bayern Munich last January. Donovan would join fellow U.S. national team players Carlos Bocanegra and Charlie Davies in Ligue 1.

Paris St. Germain finished in sixth place in Ligue 1 last season, one spot away from Europa League qualification.

What do you think of Donovan heading to France? Think it's a good fit for him? Disappointed that he's not heading to somewhere like Spain or England? Think another loan makes sense considering the World Cup is next summer?

I’m french and I’m a fan of Paris Saint-Germain and let me tell you if he come to Paris he has absolutely no chance to be starter cause the player at his place now is Stephane Sessegnon and he is one of the best midfielders in Europe!!! He don’t play regulary all season cause he got alcoolism problem but when he is healthy he’s a crack!!!

I think this is exactly the type of league Donovan needs to play in. He should be a good fit for this league. However, if he doesn’t get regular playing time I really don’t see the point in him going.

    @ Andy in Atlanta

He is honestly too good for PSG… I know you will all think I am crazy but his 2009 game is top 50 in the world right now in my opinion…

    – Two thoughts:
    a. you’re a typial delusional US fan if you think he is one of the top 50 players in the world
    b. You obviously need to watch more football/players from around the world. Donovan’s good but he won’t be even the best player at PSG – Sessagnon is more talented.

Would like to see Landon go to the EPL. There are some lower teams in the EPL that could use a striker.

The experience he could get playing against the likes of chelsea man united etc would help for 2010 world cup

    For all the haters :

Adebayor (Man City), Benzema (real Madrid), Anelka (Chelsea), Drogba(Chelsea), Ribéry (Bayern), Malouda (Chelsea), Abidal (Barcelona), Henry (Barcelona), Marquez (Barcelona), Evra (Man U), Ronaldinho (Milan AC), Vieira (Inter Milan), Gallas (Arsenal), Maicon (Inter Milan), Lisandro Lopez (Lyon) and many others (that could have taken the day for enumerate all of them), played or learned to play in France, precisely in the French championship (La ligue 1).

Being myself a big PSG fan, I think that the arrival of LD in the team would be beneficial for the two parties. But, y’all have to know that, that team had almost reached the champions league last year, if they didn’t have waste their end of season with average performances. In the middle of the season, they clearly had the occasion to take the head of the championship but finally they didn’t have the essential resources to do it and are slowly gone down in the classification, until the 6th place. (At only 1 small point of the Europa League!!!)

In fact, for all the people who would not be familiar of the European championships, currently, according to the UEFA, the best championships are :

    1- Premier League (English Championship)

    2- Liga (Spanish Championship)

    3- Seria A (Italian Championship)

    4- Ligue 1 (French Championship)

    5- Bundesliga (German Championship)

So, the loan of Lando in Paris would be far from being a bad thing for him, I think.
