Soccer Sunday: Your Running Commentary

CityUnited (Reuters)

Survival Sunday has arrived.

We will find out today which team will lift the English Premier League trophy, which EPL teams will play in the UEFA Champions League next year, as well as which teams won't be in the Premier League next season as ten league matches kick off to determine the winners and losers.

Manchester City has their fate in their hands. A win against Queens Park Rangers would give City the championship, while a draw or loss could open the door for Manchester United to win a record 20th league title.

Bolton will be rooting for City to win because a QPR loss and Bolton win today would help the Trotters secure a place in the Premier League for next season.

Arsenal is holding onto third place in the Premier League, but anything short of a win today could open the door for Tottenham or Newcastle to leapfrog the Gunners into third place.

The English Premier League isn't the only game in town today. In Italy, Lazio and Inter Milan square off with a place in the UEFA Champions League on the line. A Lazio win puts the Roman club into the Champions League next season while Inter can jump into fourth place with a win and Napoli tie or loss.

In Mexico, Santos Laguna will look to book their place in the Mexican Clausura Playoff Final with a win today against Club America. Herculez Gomez and the Guerreros can secure a rematch of the CONCACAF Champions League final against Monterrey with a victory today.

  1. Way to go, Manchester City. Today, you destroyed not only your own season, but Bolton’s as well. Here’s to another 60-some years as being unknown Jerome in Manchester

  2. Btw if, IF this result holds for QPR can’t y’all see media-happy Barton taking all the credit for the win with his antics? “my red spurred my team on to the win” or “I knew I had to do something to fire my team up. And it worked” etc

  3. Announcer has been singing Ream’s praises all game…much more than 90% of US Nats fans do, by the way. “There’s that man again”…”Tim Ream again…this kid’s a good prospect to me.”

  4. how can any PL manager trust him now? I think teams will look at this and say this guy’s too much of a head case and not worth the risk

  5. That will be the end of Joey Barton’s career in the EPL. That needs to be a lifetime ban.

Throws an elbow into Tevez’ face off the ball, gets red carded. And then after screaming at the official walks up behind Aguero and just knees him in the back and then tries to start a brawl with other City players.

    Disgraceful piece of garbage.

  6. Lescott with the defensive mistake of the season. Wow he will be the most hated man in half of Manchester and the rest of England if that is the end of things.

Wow, just wow what a terrible error.

  7. So incredible.

Yaya Toure sprains his hamstring, can barely move, but tells Mancini he’ll fight through it. Hobbles around the pitch doing nothing for 10 minutes, pushes through and gets in a dangerous position to toe poke a gorgeous ball through to Zabeleta who blasts one home for his first goal of the season and the potential season winner.

Yaya Toure is so bad*ss. He can barely walk and he’s refusing to come off.

  8. I have no idea how SWP escaped at least a yellow card for that. It was awesome, but so illegal.

In case you didn’t see it, a ball was coming to Yaya Toure at the top of the box and SWP jumped and laid out completely horizontal to punch the ball away lol.

  9. WTF. WBA up 2-1. Sick floated ball, and the WBA striker beats both centerbacks to set up a clinical finish.

As a neutral, last week’s Arsenal match and this week’s are incredibly entertaining.

  10. WBA counter shreds the Arsenal D, and we’re tied 1-1. Offsides… very likely, though can’t tell for sure with the replays I’ve seen.

  11. Horror blunder by the West Brom keeper who comes out to collect the ball and can’t grab it as Benayoun out runs the WBA backline and beats the keeper to pounce. That was perhaps the EPL goalie mishap of the season.

  12. Since Deuce is not in the Fulham lineup and I don’t have Fox Soccer +, will be flipping stations to checkout today’s action. Hoping SBI Nation can post updates on the Bolton match.
