MLS- New York Red Bulls

Red Bulls and Fire still looking for first wins after draw

Dax McCarty

The Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls are both still looking for their first win after exchanging first-half set piece goals in Toyota Park Sunday.

It was only 21 minutes into the match, but Dax McCarty’s equalizer on a scramble in the box was enough to secure a road point for the Red Bulls, bringing both teams to 0-1-2 on the season.

McCarty’s reaction was quickest in a crowd following a corner kick that was cleared away but not out by Chicago defense, hitting a short one far post to goalkeeper Sean Johnson’s left.

Chicago had come out strong early, scoring in the sixth minute with Jeff Larentowicz heading a corner kick into the top right corner past goalkeeper Luis Robles. The match marked the second straight game where Chicago had scored first but settled for a tie.

Up next, The Fire go away to face D.C. United next Saturday while the Red Bulls will host Chivas USA.

Chicago Fire looked pretty terrible in that game. I know most people will point to the United game as their first chance to get a win… but I think it might be a trap game.

don’t know what your talking about, Robles had a hell of a game, made at least three outstanding stops. Field conditions were pretty bad also, I see the Fire getting better game after game. Look out for the young lads!

Just spent some amount of time trying to figure out when Joel Lindpere joined the team again.

When I realized he wasn’t, and seeing the ’20’ on the shorts, I thought “gee this Matt Miazga guys looks incredibly like Joel Linpere.”

    Then I noticed Hans Backe.

Coulda won by 2 goals if we could pull the trigger. Everybody wanted to pass in the penalty area for some reason. If they do it like that again on Saturday vs Chivas, at least the New York supporters will be there yelling SHOOT!! this time around.
