In the world of professional sports, rookies are generally compared to fellow first year players. Rookies are evaluated based on how they stack up against other draftees and are tasked with demonstrating the ability and maturity it takes to play at the highest level.

In the case of the Chicago Fire’s Harrison Shipp, it may be time to stop comparing him to the rest of the 2014 class, as Shipp’s play this season is worthy of being compared to the best MLS has to offer.

Shipp had his best performance as a professional over the weekend, picking up three goals and an assist in a 5-4 victory over the New York Red Bulls. It was another dominant performance in what has been a dominant year for Shipp, who picks up yet another SBI MLS Rookie of the week, his fifth of the season.

What did you think of Shipp’s performance? What other rookies impressed you this week?

Might as well just give him rookie of the year at this point, nobody else is coming close to him.

First goal should not have counted, but the kid made the most of his chances.

He gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “Shipping goals.”

According to the new rule (changed last year) MaGee needed to actually touch the ball or screen the GK’s vision to interfere. He did neither. The goalie was distracted and did not focus on the ball. This was a correct call based on the new rule.Sorry guys…I thought it should have been called off side also according to the old rule. I did not know they changed the interpretation.
