Cascio suffers torn right ACL, expected to miss rest of season

There is always a risk when a club loans out one of its players, and the Colorado Rapids have harshly been reminded of that.

The Houston Dynamo announced on Wednesday that midfielder Tony Cascio, who is on loan from Colorado, is expected to miss the rest of the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Cascio underwent surgery on the injury on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Cascio joined the Dynamo in January via the first intra-league loan from the Rapids. He made four starts in five appearances and was being counted on to help fill the potential void left by some players’ departures to the World Cup.

What do you make of this development? Think this will hurt the chances of seeing more intra-league loans in the near future? Wonder what the Rapids are thinking right now?

Loved him why he was in town and hope he heals well.

I don’t think this changes intra-league loans any time soon. There aren’t many of them as it is. It’s still better for players to get 1st team minutes where they can so they benefit the home club later. Injuries happen, and could easily have happened for him on loan to a lower league or in training.

You’d think Houston would learn by now about Colorado pickups…..Colin Clark, Omar Cummings, etc.
