SBI MLS Best XI: Week 25

The past week in Major League Soccer saw an avalanche of goals, and too many outstanding attacking performances to mention.

Standing out among all those noteworthy games wasn’t easy, but for international stars Thierry Henry, Obafemi Martins and Landon Donovan, they each showed last week why they are among the very best in the league, helping lead their teams to victories with virtuoso performances.

The three MLS All-Star teammates headline this week’s SBI MLS Best XI for Week 25. Also making the team for a second straight week are FC Dallas speedster Fabian Castillo and Columbus Crew standout Justin Meram.

Here is the SBI MLS Best XI for Week 25:

Henry was awesome – pretty much won the game by himself against Montreal. RBNY certainly would not have won the game without him anyway.

“pretty much won the game by himself”

He seems to do that a lot for NYRB. That man is a legend and still playing better than most in MLS at age 37.

      • Ian

If Arsene could take him on loan without paying his wages (impossible, right?), I’ll be he would. A slow, old Thierry Henry is still better than an injured striker. Henry’s IQ makes up for his lack of speed these days. I could see him proving useful in the FA Cup again.

Is it possible that Perry Kitchen is playing at a higher level then Michael Bradley? His pay this season seems to indicate it as much.

      • slowleftarm

Yeah, his pay is definitely not at Bradley’s level anyway. I’m sure Perry wishes it was.

I think Perry has adjusted very well to the style of play in MLS.
He’s definitely turning into a senior team caliber mid, and I don’t think it will be long before Klinsmann starts to tinker with him.
I also don’t think it will be long before he starts getting looks from good clubs overseas.

  • Northzax

Wow, Bobby Boswell was so good he made both teams! Was one of them supposed to be Birnbaum?

    • MiamiAl

Yeah I think so. Birnbaum has looked like a seasoned pro since he started playing. Very poised for a rookie. I would also put Luis Silva and Chris Rolfe on the list. Both those guys have stepped up their game recently.
