Things have been going pretty well for D.C. United in recent weeks, but some bad news has hit the club.

D.C. United have announced that Chris Rolfe is expected to miss the next six weeks after sustainingĀ a fractured left forearm in training on Wednesday. Rolfe had surgery on the injury on Wednesday night, and will now be sidelined for much of the remainder of the regular season.

Rolfe has been a key part of the Eastern Conference-leading club’s recent success, scoring three goals and setting up three others in his last eight league appearances.

In total, Rolfe has six goals and six assists in 21 matches for D.C. United this season.

What do you think of Rolfe being sidelined? Which player should D.C. United use to make up for his absence? Do you see Rolfe returning to his form by the time the playoffs roll around?

Bad news for DCU. Rolfe has been fantastic and he will be missed. But the team has depth at Rolfe’s position. EJ can fill in on left, getting him on the field at the same time as Espindola and Silva. Lewis Neal is very capable there as well. Finally, Pontius is close to being fully ready and it may be an opportunity to work him back into the lineup. All in all, DCU should be OK here.

Maybe. I’m not as confident any of those are good enough options to win the Shield. They may be good enough to beat out SKC for the top of the East though with a 4 point lead and 1 game in hand. Margin for error just got smaller.

Separate from the impact on DC United, it’s tough for Rolfe. Chicago was crazy to let the man go. He’s a class act, he makes his teammates better, he leaves it all on the field, brings energy. He’s be a positive addition to any team in MLS–both on the field and off it.

always enjoy watching him play. he’s a big part of what DC is doing. agree with JoeW. big loss

I’m not sure DCU can make it to the supporter’s shield w/o him, either. But they’ll be fine.

That is not the way I wanted Seattle to have more points in Oct. Dang.
