The charge of the New York Red Bulls continues.

Despite the absences of two regularly featured defenders in Damien Perrinelle (suspension) and Kemar Lawrence (injury), the Red Bulls had no problems stopping MLS MVP frontrunner Sebastian Giovinco and Toronto FC this week, picking up a 3-0 win at Red Bull Arena to extend their unbeaten streak to six games and earning recognition as SBI MLS Team of the Week.

Anthony Wallace and Karl Ouimette filled in on the backline to stifle the visitors while Luis Robles posted his second consecutive and seventh overall shutout of the season. The Red Bulls had given up only three goals during their unbeaten run.

Wallace also notched a goal along with Bradley Wright-Phillips and newly acquired Gonzalez Veron in the contest, helping the Red Bulls pull within five points of the Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United with three games on hand.

The Red Bulls’ strong performance earned them the nod for SBI’s MLS Team of the Week honors, beating out crosstown rivals New York City FC, Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy.

What do you think about the Red Bulls’ win this week? How much longer do you think they can keep this run going? Are they poised to take over first place in the Eastern Conference?

  2. The east is a much weaker conference. I would like to see how New York measures up to the elite of Major League soccer in sides like Vancouver, Sporting and the LA Galaxy. But we won’t see that this regular season. The only west side NY will face will be Portland. NY will have to remain consistent against eastern conference opposition including three matches with the last place team Chicago Fire.
