Manchester City’s loss to West Ham allowed some teams to close the gap atop the EPL standings, but Tottenham’s improving form should offer City a good challenge.

Leicester City has been one of the surprises of the EPL season, and will look to keep its surprising start going with a win against a visiting Arsenal today. The Gunners can jump past Leicester City with a win today.

In Mexico, the famous Club America-Chivas Guadalajara rivalry will be renewed, as new Chivas boss Matias Almeyda looks to lead Chivas to an upset over the might Aguilas.

      • meh, but TFC’s second goal was all Michael and he’s released TFC forward and dangerously pretty well in the second half seems to me. but let’s be clear, TFC with many holes on their team

      • They’re slowly building over the last few years. 80% of MLS teams have holes (thanks salary cap…) TFC have decent players just not great ones (besides the obvious ones). Perquis was signed to be the go-to CB but he’s not that great, definitely gives 110% but…. Kantari has done slightly better since being signed. they need upgrades at fullback tho. Morrow is decent but Morgan isn’t. Jackson has skill and now seems to be transitioning to RB instead of RM.

        morrow kantari perquis jackson

not a terrible lineup looking ahead to next year (way too early i admit)

      • thanks for the breakdown. watched them a lot more last year than this. just don’t have the time to follow them this year but will keep an eye on what you said when I see them

  1. For all those people that gripe about USA player x should be in Europe… They are in MLS, so watch MLS. And if you only care about the USMNT, but look down your nose at MLS, then I think you are missing the point.

  2. Perez with a really nice goal for Newcastle. Brought a cross down on his foot, let it bounce and scored on a half volley in the box. Worth watching.

  3. You guys think Lewandowski will be in Munich until end of his contract in 2017 or 18?

The only bigger clubs than Munich are Barca and Madrid. Though he could earn way more cash at PsG/Chelsea/Man City

    • In what way is Barcelona a “bigger” club than Bayern Munich?

What does being a “bigger” club even mean? BM consistently dominates one of the world’s elite leagues, trails only Madrid and Milan in terms of European success, and is behind only Madrid and ManU in terms of revenue.

Perhaps it’s a matter of unfamiliarity, but American fans seem to constantly disregard the Bundesliga.

      • I agree, ask your typical American soccer fan and they’ll say that EPL is the best league in the world, when in reality its the 3rd.

      • “Best league” is a little misleading.

Currently UEFA rank Spain, Germany and England as the 3 top leagues.

But if you play at Ingolstadt or Darmstatdt are you at a bigger club than if you were at Man City or Chelsea?

If you are at Elche or Almeria are you at a bigger club than Dortmund or Schalke?

I doubt that. This whole “bigger club” thing can be very much a case by case basis for the players.

  4. Our young boys like Zardes, Agudelo, Bruin should all be in Europe. Doesnt matter if 2nd divisions or not but they need to be in Europe

  5. I can’t believe I just wasted another two hours watching Sunderland.
In the faint hope that an American player would actually get on and make a difference.

  6. Dang it is simple. The TV contracts for MLS have grown so much that teams can now overpay to bring back home US talent. Where in Europe would Edu, Kljastan, or Altidore start?

    Reply
  7. Whats up with the lack of Yanks abroad lately? Is this really 2015 or 1995? How can we have so few talented NT guys in Europe?

Why is Edu or Kljestan playing in MLS?

  8. I really wish Dempsey and Bradley and Altidore were still in Europe

Altidore playing in Italy or France. Bradley being in rotation for Roma (2nd best club in Italy once he left) Dempsey being a super sub for Spurs

Shame those 2 didnt get a chance to play in the CL

    • I would if having so many guys back in MLS actually pushes guys more. Before there seemed to be an attitude of they are in Europe so they must be the better player. Now you have people asking if Feilhaber and Nguyen are better then Bradley. Why is Diskerud even in the team. If they had just stayed in Europe even on the bench, people would have just continued to say of coarse they have to start.

Before I feel like everyone just rooted for any American abroad too and perhaps had some homer blinders on. However in MLS people have different teams of coarse and rooting interest. Where perhaps a player sulking, diving or consent moaning stands out more. I don’t know just a thought.

      • Jack,

        “pushes guys more”?

If Jozy and Mikey were at Club X ,say Nantes or Benfica, in Europe and were playing as well as they are now do you think they would be in Club x’s lineup?

Is that good for the USMNT?

      • I don’t understand this idea that just because they get on the field in MLS means they have to be starters for the USMNT. Shouldn’t we be looking at the players doing more then that?

      • Jack,

        Who is we?

SKC fans are convinced Benny would be “world class” if JK ever gave him a chance.

However, I had not noticed JK being over impressed with a player just because “they get on the field in MLS”

If you are Loew, Del Bosque or Dunga your selection process for the national team is as straight forward as is possible when selecting players for a national team.

When you have a player pool as thin as the US’ the process is a lot more involved and every player is a case by case basis.

  9. Best striker in the world?

Ibrahimovic? Suarez? Rooney? RvP, Costa? AGUERO? Giroud? Mandzukic? Lewandowski? Bacca? Benzema? Higuain? Tevez? Balotelli?
