Despite recent struggles in MLS, D.C. United has been one of the strongest sides in the CONCACAF Champions League.

It remained that way Tuesday night.

D.C. United became the first team to qualify for the playoff round of the 2015-16 CCL after defeating Arabe Unido, 2-0.

Currently sitting second in the Eastern Conference, D.C. only needed a draw at RFK Stadium to advance to the knockout round, but with the help of two early goals, D.C. assured itself a spot and possibly a higher seed with the win.

Conor Doyle and Jared Jeffrey gave D.C. the 2-0 advantage before halftime, and the Panamanian club could not find a response for the remainder of the game.

Doyle handed the MLS side the lead just 34 seconds into the contest, blasting a low shot toward the back post from the right. In the 22nd minute, Jeffrey easily doubled the lead with a header from a Facundo Coria corner kick.

Renan Addles had the best shot, a free kick that pinged the crossbar, for Arabe Unido during the evening, His effort in the 52nd minute was one of the few that tested goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra.

D.C. United still has one game remaining in group play, a meeting away to Montego Bay United, and a win in Jamaica could see the MLS side achieve the highest seed in the playoff round.

Here are highlights from Tuesday night’s game:
