Joe Corona has found a new home in Liga MX for the 2016 Clausura.

The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder was loaned from Club Tijuana to Dorados on Thursday, extending his stay away from the Xolos for yet another campaign.Corona, who joined Tijuana in 2010, had spent the 2015 Apertura with Veracruz, appearing in just nine games.

The 25-year-old received his last U.S. Men’s National Team call-up during this past summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, a tournament the U.S. finished fourth.

He recorded no goals and had no assists for his new club during the Apertura, while Veracruz finished in the eighth and final playoff position.

Dorados, meanwhile, finished dead last in the Apertura and will have to do well in 2016 to climb out of last place in the relegation table. Corona and his new club will kick off their Clausura campaign on Jan. 9 against Chiapas. The U.S. international’s new side will then play Tijuana in the second game of the season.

What do you think of Corona’s move? How will he fare in 2016 with Dorados?

  1. why can’t he come back to the Xolos? If he’s good enough for consideration with USMNT why isn’t he good enough for time in Liga MX?

      • I agree with Bryan. He was often a real spark plug for the Xolos. Also, if you go back and look at the game he played in the Gold Cup, he was pretty awful in the first half, undoubtedly due to some rust, but in the second half he played quite well. Maybe he should move to MLS. I think he would become one of the best midfielders in MLS if he were to make that move.
