MLS Ticker: Beitashour, MacMath traded before MLS Re-Entry Draft, and more

Steven Beitashour will stay in Canada next season, but he’ll be donning a different color jersey.

According to TSN, the 28-year-old right back will be leaving the Vancouver Whitecaps and heading to Toronto FC. The Iranian international has reportedly been acquired by TFC ahead of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Friday.

Beitashour started in all 54 games he played in with the Whitecaps, providing eight assists. According to the MLS Players Union he had a $197,167 salary figure in 2015, and TFC apparently was willing to offer him what he wanted before Phase Two of the Re-Entry Draft, which would have likely seen Beitashour’s salary change through negotiations.

RAPIDS ACQUIRE MACMATH FROM UNION

Zac MacMath will be staying in Colorado come 2016.

The Philadelphia Union made another offseason move on Friday, trading goalkeeper MacMath to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a second round pick in the 2017 MLS Draft.

MacMath was aset to enter the Re-Entry Draft on Friday, and at the young age of of 24, he would have been a likely candidate to be chosen in Phase One. According to the Players Union, he earned $130,000 this past season.

The former fifth overall selection in the 2011 MLS Draft spent four years with the Union, recording 28 shutouts in 103 appearances. He was loaned to the Rapids during this past regular season. He started in three games this season, recording one shutout, for the Western Conference squad.

FC DALLAS TRADES FOR TOP SPOT IN RE-ENTRY DRAFT

Oscar Pareja and FC Dallas apparently are extremely interested in a specific player in Friday’s Re-Entry Draft.

FC Dallas has announced that it has traded general allocation money and its own No. 17 pick to the Chicago Fire in exchange for the draft’s top spot.

Some intriguing options in this year’s draft include, 27-year-old Panamanian Gabriel Torres, 24-year-old Argentine Maximiliano Urruti and 28-year-old Guatemalan Marco Pappa.

Stage One of the draft begins at 3 p.m., while Stage Two will take place next Thursday at 3 p.m.

KAH RE-SIGNS WITH WHITECAPS

One of the key ingredients in the Vancouver Whitecaps’ successful defense is returning in 2016.

Set to enter the MLS Re-Entry Draft, Pa Modou Kah took himself off the market by re-signing with the Whitecaps on Friday. Kah, 35, signed a one-year extension.

“We’re very pleased to bring Pa back,” said Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson in a statement released by the club. “The experience and mentorship he provides is of great value to our young group of players. He is a natural leader both on and off the field.”
