This Weekend's Soccer on TV

manchestercityvtottenhamhotspurpremierqrv5ipg9sybl

The only two undefeated teams remaining in the English Premier League will square off in a top-of-the-table clash this weekend.

Tottenham, after picking up a 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough last weekend, has a chance to overtake Manchester City when it hosts Pep Guardiola’s squad at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Two points currently separate the two and Spurs have the recent bragging rights after completing the double over City last season by a combined scored of 6-2.

Manchester United looks to build off its momentum from last weekend’s rebounding performance — a 4-1 rout of reigning champions Leicester City — when it hosts Stoke City. Arsenal, meanwhile, will look to keep pace atop the league when it travels to take on Burnley.

In Germany, the still-perfect Bayern Munich will try to slow down the upstart Cologne — which currently stands third in the Bundesliga — in a home fixture. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, hopes to take advantage by getting a result on the road at Bayer Leverkusen.

As for the action in Spain, the three table leaders, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid will take on Eibar, Celta de Vigo and Valencia, respectively.

Stateside, MLS’ Eastern Conference will see an exciting weekend with several playoff contenders vying to improve their standings. Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls will host D.C. United and the Philadelphia Union, respectively, while New York City FC travels to face the Houston Dynamo.

In the Western Conference, a couple of marquee matchups will see FC Dallas take on the LA Galaxy and the Vancouver Whitecaps face their Cascadia rivals, the Seattle Sounders.

Meanwhile, the NWSL semifinals will begin, with the Washington Spirit taking on the Chicago Red Stars and the Portland Thorns hosting Western New York Flash.

Also in action will be the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan. The United States will kick off its campaign on Saturday against Paraguay.

I know my complaining won’t accomplish anything, but I wish Fox would do their programming with the US audience in mind. For example, they show the Bayern game, but Hertha Berlin vs. Hamburg, which should feature a US international on each team, is only on Fox 2Go. Then, for the Under 17 Women’s WC, they show Nigeria vs. Brazil on Fox Sports 1, but the US game is on Fox Sports Plus, which is much less available.. This happens almost every week where they seem to ignore what teams have Americans on them.
