The foundation for Fafa Picault’s potential move to MLS has been laid for the last two weeks. The 25-year-old took a big step toward a switch to the United States on Tuesday, as 2.Bundesliga side St. Pauli announced that his contract with the club was mutually terminated ahead of a move to the Philadelphia Union.

“Even if my time at St. Pauli ended unsatisfactorily, I keep the club in good memories,” Picault said, “and look forward to my new job in the U.S. ”

Picault, who has spent time in Europe with Sparta Prague and St. Pauli, was seen training with the Philadelphia Union last week, where he earned praise from Union sporting director Earnie Stewart.

Picault previously featured for the Tampa Bay Rowides before heading to Europe and has made one appearance for the U.S. Men’s National Team which came in the pre-Copa America friendly against Puerto Rico in May 25.

The Union have yet to announce Picault’s move home to MLS, but it appears everything is lined up for him to become a Union player in the coming days or weeks.
