The Chicago Fire are challenging for the top of the Eastern Conference and recently went on a four game winning run. Now, their best player is picking up plenty of individual recognition.

With six goals in as many games, Fire forward Nemanja Nikolic is the SBI MLS Player of the Month for May.

Nikolic got off to a blazing start in May, scoring five times in three games. The highlight performance of the month was a brace and an assist in a 4-1 win against Seattle Sounders on May 14 in front of a sell out crowd at Toyota Park. He followed that up with another two-goal performance in a 3-0 thrashing of Colorado Rapids four days later. In total, Nikolic fired six goals and an assist throughout the month.

He now leads the league with 11 goals in 14 starts on the season, one more than the Houston Dynamo’s Cubo Torres. Contributing to his goalscoring form is his league leading 27 shots on target out of 47 total shots, which ranks third in MLS.
