Charlie Davies continued his scoring ways as he net the lone Americans Abroad goal of the weekend in Hammarby's 1-0 win over Malmo FF. Davies' goal, which came in the 57th minute, was his fourth of the season and further established him as the team's leading scorer.

U.S. national team defender Oguchi Onyewu and Standard Liege forced a two-game playoff to decide the Belgian League championship with a 1-0 win vs. KAA Gent. Liege now faces Anderlecht

Maurice Edu also had a solid weekend, going 90 minutes in Ranger's 2-1 win against Aberdeen. The win once again put Rangers in first place of the Scottish Premier League with one game to go.

Midfielder Michael Bradley's weekend was not as bright. What do you think of these performances? Do you see Davies' goal-scoring ways translating over to another league if he transfers this summer? Will Edu and Rangers win the Scottish title next week? Is Bradley and Moenchengladbach's loss a cause for concern?

  1. Kizz,

I’m one of the few who agree with you on Rossi.

The reason Ives needs to report out on guys, even if they didn’t do anything is to keep everyone in the loop. Imagine if there was no update on Freddy Adu? There would be 50 posts saying, “What happened with Freddy this weekend?”

I had no idea. Thanks so much for that link!! What drama!

  2. Whats with all the hate towards Rossi? He made a move he felt was in his best interest; I would never knock a man for doing something he wanted to even if it meant he sat on the Italian national team bench.
Also please save the space, if a player didn’t do anything, its boring to read didn’t dress or was on the bench, is that an achievement? That’s more of an insult than an update.

  3. If Fulham wins on Saturday or even if they draw mosy likely then they will qualify for the Europa League as they will finish 7th in the league with a win and the other spot would normally go to the winner of the FA Cup but Everton and Chelsea already have places in Europe so it goes to the 7th place finisher.

  4. Can we even call Giuseppe Rossi a Yank anymore? He’s pretty much turned his back on the country he was raised in… can someone call Obama and have Rossi’s citizenship removed?

  5. Kung Fu,

    I agree.

It can be a Belgium Standard Liege thing……he and Felliani can have a contest to see who can grow the biggest fro.

  6. Gooch should grow a huge afro like what Ben Wallace used to have … it’ll go well with the beard thingy he’s got going.

  7. Eddie Johnson is currently back @ Fulham training. He actually would have had a decent chance to make an appearance this week had Spurs not scored a late goal because that would have meant Fulham solidified 7th place and could play several fringe players as the result would not mean anything…now however it appears that they need at least a draw if Spurs somehow win impressively enough to make up 5 goals against Liverpool who have very little to play for minus the home fans adoration.

  8. Anyone know if Eddie Johnson is going back to Fulham?

Yes he is. His loan at Cardiff ended so he is going back to Fulham. He is still under contract until 2011.

  9. CaliNick,

Thanks for the descriptions, I don’t watch Mexican league mathes often and your report helps bring it to life.

Good experience for Edu getting minutes in big matches down the stretch. Espeically, with full stadiums in hostile atmosphere’s. Rumor is Steven Davis is going back to Premirship or Championship next season. That may open a spot for Edu to become a full time starter.

  10. Moenchengladbach will guarantee staying up with a tie next weekend. They are even fairly safe with a loss as long it isn’t a bad loss.

Their form has been very good after the winter break. Going into the break they looked to be in a nearly impossible position.

  11. Essientally, Davies is building a portfolio. He needs to go to France to improve the sharpness of his passing. I see Davies fittig in as a right-winger/forward and France develops those kinds of players. Ex: Florent Malouda and Frank Ribery. I’ve only seen Davies shine in games indiviudually. I’d like to see him perform better in games where a team effort is required; like the Sweden game.

Edu could go to France or Italy, too. He seems to be improving his defensive game majorly, which was already great. He needs some help with his passing as well; sometimes his passe will be really creative and sharp, while other times it’ll be really erratic.

  12. Aston Villa’s result for the season is all but final: they can’t climb above fifth or fall below sixth, and therefore they’re in UEFA Cup (a.k.a. EuropaLeague?) for certain.

Wouldn’t it be nice if Brad Guzan got some playing time? Or is Brad Friedel’s start streak too important?

  13. Mix Diskerud played 18 in Stabæk’s 4-1 victory against Sandefjord.

Kid has been Stabæk’s first player off the bench all season, but is never mentioned, even when he scored a goal like last weekend.

There are a lot of yanks they don’t include on the list. I’ve been trying to get them to include Jon-Paul Pittman who plays for Wycombe and helped them get promoted to League One, but it doesn’t work.

  14. Clint Dempsey was also given man of the match for his performance v newcastle by the broadcast crew for his effort all over the pitch.

  15. DC JOSH – it was good to see Spector back but Pienarr was all over him and is really in form right now.

Hope they rest him for the FA Cup this week vs. Fulham!

  16. exciting to watch Spector in action on Sunday, although he was unfortunate to have the responsibility of marking Stephen Pienarr all night. Hope to see Beas and Jozy in a couple weeks, or else!!

  17. Very exciting to see davies thriving in a european league, even if a smaller one. Hopefully this will open doors to bigger clubs during the summertime, I remember sochaux from ligue 1 being interested in him earlier.

  18. I could see Charlie Davies going on a consistent goal scoring streak and transfering to either a top Dutch club or a mid-table French/German club. Not bad.

  19. Mix Diskerud played 18 in Stabæk’s 4-1 victory against Sandefjord.

Kid has been Stabæk’s first player off the bench all season, but is never mentioned, even when he scored a goal like last weekend.

  20. Torres scored a goal in the midweek playoff game. A hard shot from distance really good goal.

Vidal made an incredible slide, that redirected the goal for the other team. With that one goal, vidals team would have been out.

  21. You know that the Norwegian league isnt all that great when Hunter Freeman regularly starts and plays 90 minutes cuz he was starting to stink up during his last couple of months in the MLS
