  2. Wicks needs to chill out.

He laid that guy out at the end of the game. I know it was a 50/50 ball but he came in over the top of the ball and didn’t have his hands out to make any type of play for the ball (maybe it was outside the box but you can’t tell on the camera angle they show). He’s lucky that the ball bounced up into his knees or he would have gotten an easy red card.

I am SOOOO glad he’s not on LA anymore. His timing is horrible, especially on breakaways.

  3. @lou: you’re missing the point. DCU has a very large starting player rotation. There are only two players on the team that haven’t seen any starting time: one played last night, and the other is out of town on a loan.

If you think that playing Gomez, Fred, Pontius, and Wallace (who did not start) constitutes not playing reserves, please indicate, by name, which players DC might have played instead of those four. If you go to DC’s roster for non-defenders to replace those four, guess who you’re going to get? Moreno, Emilio, Simms and Quaranta — the only other non-defenders on the roster. That was a team of reserves we played last night, whether you like it or not.

  4. Lou,

come on now. if they want it so bad? and here I thought that was the point? are you annoyed because DCU doesn’t have enough really crappy reserves to play? there are only 24 players on a squad, you know? just because DCU actually uses them in matches shouldn’t be held against them. the only players on the squad who played last night who haven’t started in a league match are John DiRaimondo and Boyzzz Khumalo. this could either be because the team played starters, or because they are the only players on the squad who haven’t started a league match. the other 22 players all have at least one start in an MLS match this season. for the team tied on points at the top of the conference.

  6. DC is two for two this year vs. the Bulls.

There are no excuses for a loss, especially two of them.

Keep grasping Red Bulls fans. DC is a far deeper and better team.

  7. The last red bull game aginst DCU was different, that was a league game, and as much as i hate dc i will give them props for that win and i will condemn my team for that lose, however it was an open cup game and it is the league norm to see MLS teams playing their reserves in those types of games, i guess DC didn’t get the memo, fine if they want the open cup that bad good for them they can have it.

  8. @lou: “. I didn’t see us playing stammler, celadas, or kandji, if we did i’m sure the score would have been different. Rojas was one of the only starters who playerd and did so becuase he had a red card already i’m guessing.”

Well, whose fault is that? Don’t knock DC for playing to win*.

*For an example of playing to win, see the last NYRB v DCU game 26 April.

  9. Win, Gomez has been an all star caliber player for much of his career, and Fred has shown that as well. Khano has always been horrible and richards at best has been good but never all star worthy. It doesn’t really matter if fred and gomez don’t start consistently at this time becuase of what they have done in the resent past. Pontius and wallace are rookie of the year candidates as well and they both played. I didn’t see us playing stammler, celadas, or kandji, if we did i’m sure the score would have been different. Rojas was one of the only starters who playerd and did so becuase he had a red card already i’m guessing.

And mike the attendance is really not much different than last year’s, it is an open cup game and still in the early stages of the tournament, they’re are never large crowds for those games so considering all that i would actually have to say this was a could turn out attendance wise.

  10. Sad to see such poor attendance. It seems like overall attendance is down this year(even in Toronto). Haven’t looked at any numbers to back this up though.

  11. In response to Iou, DC only played like two starters from their last game, and in addition they took out some of their better players in the second half when Rojas and others came in for the Red Bulls. If you say that Gomez and Fred are really everyday starters then the same could be said of Richards and Smith.

Basically all you can really take from this game is that DCU is way deeper than the Red Bulls

  12. i hate DC so much, i couldn’t even watch the highlights. The fact is that we came in to this game playing our reserves. Dc came in with fred, gomez, mctavish, and pontius all in the starting lineup and wallace and jaime were on the bench. We got blown out in the first half with our reserves out while, 3 out of the 5 goals dc scored came from their starters. We started to put a less green lineup in and surprise we started to come back. OH and Did i say that i hate dc?

  14. Wow, Cepero is garbage. I really think NY should go for Hahnemann (spelling?) hard if he decides to come back to America.

  15. Even though I’m a RBNY fan, Props to the guys at DCU for putting that video up so quickly. MLS teams should take note that at least 2 cameras should be there even when the games are not on TV simply so the fans can get the highlights.

  16. What’s up with Josh Wicks? Shoving Richards when he goes for the ball while the score is still 4-1?

    What a bitch.

  17. Victor MacFarlane has sold his share of DC United to Will Chang today, leaving Will with 98% of the team’s shares.

Great news for DC United fans. Chang loves the team, he will guide us home.

  19. Thanks Ives…. but to be honest i really don’t want to see the highlights… you think by any chance they might bring that other NY soccer team to play at the new Red bulls Stadium. That place is gong to be to nice for the Red bulls team to play in.

The way they playing next year they going to have an attendance of 1000 at each game.
