While the crop of MLS Goal of the Week candidates this week wasn't quite as good as last week's there were still plenty of quality options to choose from.

You had a Claudio Lopez free kick, an Amado Guevara blast and a Chris Rolfe game winner among the selections for this week. Take a look:

Which goal do you think was the best of this bunch? Cast your vote after the jump:

So who gets my vote? I think it's tough to vote against Claudio Lopez's perfectly-struck free kick.

What did you think of this week's top goals? Which was your favorite? Share your thoughts below.

  1. metrostar 4 life- well Rolfe did manage to beat the offsides trap (while close to offsides, he was clearly on) and managed to beat the Gk’er with his left foot (when he’s a righty) as he was tilting to the right off balance…. shouldnt be a contender (unless you are a fire fan)for GotW, but it wasnt as easy of a shot as you make it to be

to tell the truth, Lopez and Guevara’s goals were clearly better, but wheres the fun in objectively picking??

  2. “Lopez should have this in a landslide. Guevara is an easy number two pick.”

I’m going to start calling them the Seattle Macros. No one has enough free time to run up the vote like Seattle fans are doing.

  3. ”I’m going with Montero for aesthetic reasons. If the award were for most difficult goal, perhaps Lopez should earn it. It’s just that we’ve seen that free kick on youtube 10,000 times. Can’t eat chinese food every night.”

If the chinese food is as tasty as that glorious free kick, I’d eat egg rolls every night.

Lopez should have this in a landslide. Guevara is an easy number two pick.

  4. As a soccer player and fan I find it truly remarkable that some of you seem to think that scoring during the run of play is harder than scoring off a free kick from 30 yards out. Personally, my odds of scoring when I am unmarked from the top of the 18 on a ball rolled back to me are much better than when I am standing over a ball from 30 yards out with a wall in front of me and a keeper who has time to set himself.

So I really have a hard time thinking that an unbiased observer thinks that Guevara’s goal was better than that of Lopez. Now as a soccer fan I like to see goals scored during the run of play and see the movement of the game. However, that doesn’t make the goal better or more difficult.

  5. thank you sonicdeathmonkey…maybe Shalrie’s Joseph goal might not be goal of the week- but to not even make the top 5…I mean who puts this list together…please check it out and judge for yourself!

  6. How could you even consider Rolfe’s? He had no one on him, no traffic at all, just a shot. And close to offsides as well.

  7. Guevara had a good strike, but I can’t vote for it because Reis should have saved it. It whizzed right past his head. Unless Montero called it off the post, I’m going with Lopez.

  8. The Guevera shot should have been blocked by Reis. His reflexes were a little slow. The injuries are taking their toll on him.

  9. So I always see lots of comments about how we’ve “seen that free kick goal” a bunch of times. On ESPN soccernet they have the top 10 plays in the champions league this year and at least 3 or 4 of them are free kick goals.

It’s one thing if the wall isn’t doing it’s job, or the keeper lined them up wrong, or the keeper is out of position, but if you can kick a dead ball over a jumping wall with enough bend, pace, and placement to beat the keeper from 25-30 yards, then that’s pretty f-ing impressive to me. I will argue Lopez’s goal is more impressive in comparison to the other options available this week.

  11. seattle fan here that voted for lopez.. not sure if you should generalize about all of us 🙂

I mean come on, a free kick in the upper v beats all the rest of those pretty easily. Freddy’s was nice, but he missed his first shot. Not GOTW.

  12. Good point Joe….Joseph’s goal was very classy. But I still think Casey’s one on one step over goal was the best I saw all weekend.

  13. clark’s goal was not as amazing as the others but the sea vs col game was great well played game infront of one of the better crowds i have ever seen in any colorado pro sports games.

  14. I must not know soccer–my vote goes to the poor man’s Beckham. Hard to beat the upper ninety over a wall. Great job Lopez!

Yeah, I liked the Guevara smash, too. And the nifty little pass for the colorado goal (not spectacular, but well done. if those opp’s were seen more often by players . . . )

  15. What about Shalrie Joseph’s goal- not even an option?

I mean a text book perfect world class header to the lower far post…for a defensive midfielder moving from an awkward angle

  16. Once again it will be Sensible fans vs. Seattle fans.

Montero will get GotW regardless of who we all vote for. Sounders fans are young though. We can excuse them this season.

  17. mike from linden- theres more to picking GotW then simply knowing soccer….

you have to take in personal bias towards a team….

Rolfe is the clear and cut winner, b/c im a fire fan…. truly there is no argument…

  18. kpugs- pause the video at the moment the ball is headed… Rolfe is onside… kept on by the guy right next to him

  19. For me its either Rolfe or Montero. Rolfe because its a nice trap and a good shot considering he’s off balance and falling down. Montero for staying with the play after his initial shot hits the post.

  20. Lopez had the best. Montero or Guevara will win the actual GOTW on MLSNET because their fans are incapable of voting on something objectively

Is that why Guevara is currently sitting at 8% of the vote?

  21. “Lopez goal was nice but it was off a fk I would say Gueveras is the nicest as it was a blast during the run of play!”

Guevera just shot it toward a side, Lopes’s had bend, was perfectly placed and was from

farther out… if your voting on run of play than Rolfe’s was much more impressive than Gueveras

  22. Slow week in MLS huh? Colin Clark one touches in a slow pass directly to his feet that somehow made it through a few defenders and that is a GOTW nominee?

Meanwhile GOTW is all about video, and every time I see it Rolfe is offside, and he’s nominated for GOTW?

(This isn’t even about bias. Even with the ref sucking, the Red Bulls offense sucked harder.)

  23. Clark’s goal is not a GOTW… heck, any U12 player should be able to finish that one.

Give me Lopez or Rolfe for the strikes or, if you want to go with style points, than Montero’s play off the post and header might take it.

  24. Claudio for me. And while he hasn’t torn up the league, I’m glad to see that he’s been a solid, skillful player for KC when I’ve had the chance to watch him play.

My initial impression / hyperbolic projection would be that you can’t have a stadium that bears the name of an illegal product. 😉
