With the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup final at Giants Stadium today set to give us another classic USA vs. Mexico battle, it is only fitting to take a look back at the last time these teams met in the Gold Cup final.
The 2007 final in Chicago will long go down in the memories of American fans as one of the most unforgettable moments in recent national team history. From Benny Feilhaber's dream game-winner to Tim Howard's clutch save in the dying moments, the Americans overcame a first-half deficit to lift the Gold Cup title for the fourth time.
Here are the highlights:
Do the 2007 highlights still give you goosebumps? Think the Americans can pull it off again today? Where will you be watching today's match?
Share your thoughts below.
Feilhaber’s goal remains my all-time favorite in US soccer.
Goosebumps? Check.
Can’t expect the same to happen today — our roster in ’07 was pretty serious, and although this line up hasn’t been too bad it’s definitely not up to that level. But strange things do seem to happen when Mexico’s involved. I’ll go Dos a Cero to the yanks somehow!
i want that oversized trophy!
It has been an entertaining Tornie. Suiting that it ends with a game against an arch rival.
Dempsey scores for Fullham in 3-3 friendly yesterday. Eddie Johnson gets 15 minutes as a sub after it was tied.

Predictions for the number of red cards today? Mine=2
I’ll be there in my white USA jersey! Gotta wash out at least a little bit of the Green.
Me and joe jack were mind melding, I think.
I’d much rather win in Mexico City in two and a half weeks.
i will care in august
When will we dominate an entire match, offensively and defensively?

February 11, 2009.
Never once was I worried.
Do the 2007 highlights still give you goosebumps?
No. Save the highlights, we were mostly outplayed by the Mexican squad. It’s the history of our team. When will we dominate an entire match, offensively and defensively? Nothing against capitalizing on your opponents errors, but the day we go out and control the pace, control the attack, and control the game, then it’ll be a day to rejoice. Until then, let’s play 8 behind the ball and hope for an error.
Think the Americans can pull it off again today?
Sure we can. But our B squad against Mexico’s B squad won’t mean much. Wait until Azteca.
Yyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!!!!
It’s grown on me. 😉
Concacaf has an hour long version on their youtube channel that I fully intend upon watching shortly.
Can’t wait for today’s match. Should be a good one. Go U.S.A. plus we get the chance to bruise Mexico’s already fragile ego with a win. Gotta love it.

Well I’m rooting for USA but we all know dos Santos is gonna tear us a new one!! 😉
FIRST! And, ready for todays game! GO USA! USA USA USA! Stuart Holden, Brian Ching. Bring us to victory!
Yes, yes, and section 101.
Also, this is the last big game at GS. Kinda sad for those of us that grew up with the Cosmos, 94 WC, etc.
PEN-AL-TY!!
HAHAHA
if I heard “yeaaah” today, and don’t have a few beers in me, I may have a heart-attack.
How big can CONCACAF make the Gold Cup trophy? I say go big or go home, and make it the size of a Yaris hatchback.
