Fox’s UEFA Champions League coverage is a big winner

Admit it, you had serious concerns when Fox Sports scored the rights to the UEFA Champions League. Unproven American announcers, no HD and uncertainty about Fox's experience covering club soccer's most prestigious event had many American soccer fans wondering if they were necessarily getting an upgrade from ESPN coverage.

Based on the first day, Fox's coverage of the Champions League is a smash hit.

Soccer fans with DirecTV were not only treated to the one Champions League match on Fox Soccer channel, but subscribers to the sports package had access to every game on a variety of channels, and all of the non FSC matches were in HD. There was even a channel with every match on one screen, with a function allowing you to select whichever match you wanted to turn to.

Imagine being able to take your pick from every single Champions League group match? Now throw in the HD, and you have a soccer fan's fantasy.

What did you think of the Fox Sports coverage of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday? Excited at the possibility of quality picture and announcers and a full menu of games to choose from?

  1. Are you serious please tell me you were having doubts Fox coverage was going to be bad?

They rule the football’s coverage all over the world!

I always like Fox’s their announcers except for a couple of English commentarors are bad, but the spanish coverage it’s always been GREAT!

Can’t wait for next week and the group stages to start, it should be unbelievable.

  2. oscar, it’s already been pointed out numerous times… ESPN did NOT offer Champions League in HD last season (with the exception of the final). Fox IS broadcasting many of this season’s matches in HD, just on your regional FSN channel or FX. Also, ESPN never showed these preliminary round matches at all.
I just don’t get the criticism.
