The New York Red Bulls play host to the New England Revolution tonight in U.S. Open Cup play-in action at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls come in off a disappointing 4-0 loss to San Jose, while New England comes in off a 3-2 loss to Columbus in league play.

The winner of tonight's match faces the Colorado Rapids for a place in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.

FINAL– Red Bulls 3, Revolution 0. The reserves pull out another strong performance and move a step closer to the Round of 16. New England will be happy to come away injury-free considering they're already carrying tons of knocks.

90th Minute– Nielsen just blew by a Revs defender, but his shot was saved. Great showing by the Dane tonight.

87th Minute– Interesting to consider that the Red Bulls are playing an almost entirely second unit, a group of players eager to make the most of these precious minutes. For New England, you have starters who are just trying to stay healthy on a team beset by injuries.

82nd Minute– If the Red Bulls hold on, they will face the Colorado Rapids at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, May 26th. The winner of that match would move into the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.

Yes, that match would come during a brutal stretch of matches that would include games against Columbus, New England, Juventus and Colorado.

76th Minute– Agudelo comes on for Wolyniec, who receives a loud round of applause from grateful New York fans.

70th Minute– Impressive showing from the Red Bulls reserves, who look poised to beat an Eastern COnference opponent for the second straight Open Cup match where the opponent had seven or eight regular starters play a good amount of the match.

67th Minute– Juan Agudelo is warming up. Here's a kid I know fans are anxious to see play. A U.S. Under-20 national team call-up. Agudelo is a Red Bulls Academy product with great promise.

66th Minute– Chinn just buzzed the right post with a blast. Pretty close there from the rookie.

63rd Minute– Irving Garcia comes in for Chris Albright. Hall is now at right back, with Garcia on the right wing.

62nd Minute- GOAL RED BULLS!!!! Sinisa Ubiparipovic with a BLAST of a shot off a free kick. Red Bulls 2, Revs 0. Wow. What a shot.

61st Minute– Smith is in at left back for Seth Sinovic. Should be a good match-up with Jeremy Hall.

59th Minute– Conor Chinn can make a great play one minute, but then make a terrible decision the next. The word on him is that he finds a way to score goals, but is also prone to being terrible in stretches.

Speaking of which, Khano Smith is about to come on.

55th Minute– New York putting together some nice passing sequences, but no final shot. Albright put a nice move on a defender just now and looks pretty spry. Then again, he still has 35 minutes to go.

51st Minute– Perovic with a hard shot that forces a spilled save from Sutton. Nobody can pounce on the loose ball for the Revs before Mendes clears it away.

48th Minute– Game has started slow this half. Red Bulls look a touch sharper.

47th Minute– Just took a quick half lap around the stadium to see some friends. It's a small crowd tonight but the die-hards are out so it's actually a pretty decent atmosphere.

HALFTIME– Red Bulls 1, Revolution 0. New York has had the better of the action, and the goal to show for it.

45th Minute– Wolyniec's goal is his 33rd career goal in all competitions for New York. He's fifth all-time for the New York club, behind Juan Pablo Angel, Clint Mathis, Giovani Savarese and Amado Guevara. Not bad company there.

42nd Minute– CHINN MISSES on the doorstep. Wow, what a miss. Hall plays a great pass to a streaking Albright down the right flank and Albright delivers a perfect pass to Chinn, but hits it too softly and right to the keeper.

39th Minute– Nielsen has looked sharp tonight. The Red Bulls midfield in general is having a good night.

37th Minute– Nielsen with the nice pass to spring Chinn on the goal, Chinn's initial shot was blocked and fell to Wolyniec, who's first chances were blocked before he finally converted.

Wolyniec nearly adds a second goal but skies the chance.

36th Minute- GOAL RED BULLS!!!! John Wolyniec with the finish after having his first two shots blocked. Red Bulls 1, Revs 0.

34th Minute– Still scoreless. New York with the better possession, but can't put the final pass together.

30th Minute– Red Bulls send some crosses in but the Revs defense deals with them easily. New England's defense really hasn't been troubled much. They've done well.

27th Minute– Wolyniec is taken down by Phelan, setting up a free kick from 23 yards out. Dangerous chance.

25th Minute– Boyens has done well with Schilawski, who hasn't gotten much service so far.

22nd Minute– STill scoreless. New York has had some better looks, but still no dangerous chances for either side yet.

19th Minute– Sutton handles a Schilawski header rather easily. Not much of a threat from the Revs early.

Boggs does well to stay with Nielsen on a run down the flank.

18th Minute– Chris Albright gets the start tonight. He's expected to go 90, though that might be wishful thinking. I wonder if he creaks when he runs.

15th Minute– Another good turnout by the ESC, the Red Bulls supporter's group. There are a few Revs fans in the house as well. Tonight's attendance? About a thousand, 2,000 at most.

13th Minute– Nielsen trying to take charge in this game. He's been very active early, though not quite effective.

10th Minute– Lots of good rookies on display tonight. Zack Schilawski, Zak Boggs and Seth Sinovic for New England, and Tony Tchani and Conor Chinn for New York. One rookie not in uniform tonight is Tim Ream, who is getting the night off.

7th Minute– As you might have heard, New England has just three players on its bench tonight. Back-up keeper Tim Murray and midfielders Khano Smith and Sainey Nyassi.

For the Revs, Perovic is playing almost as a second striker, with Dube dropping into midfield.
