One of the most anticipated matches of this World Cup is just hours away, but before England and the United States do battle, Group B will get underway.

South Korea and Greece will square off (7am, ESPN) at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, with both teams looking to become the first to grab three points in this World Cup. Winning this match could prove critical in the quest for the knockout rounds, as dates with Nigeria and the talented-but-troubled Argentina await.

If you're up early to watch the game this morning (especially on the West Coast), please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. Wow that EUFA sure is as good as they claim it to be. What with Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Denmark among the top 12 teams on the Continent.

Atleast the savvy among us can capitalize on it — thanks South Korea for the 2-0 result! Only regret is that I didn’t bet more…

  2. South Korea wins 2-0 for the first victory of the World Cup. This means that Korea will likely advance (barring collapse against a weaker Nigerian side).

  3. They kinda have to score more goals in this game. ARG most likely to win the group, that means it is KOR and NIG to battle it out for the 2nd spot. If NIG loses to ARG or draws ARG, and NIG is lethargic against GRE and KOR, (and KOR and NIG end up with same pts), then it is gonna come down to goal difference.

  4. Easy there Paul regarding the whole “to die” part. I think it was more like to try to get his playing career off of life support.

  5. It is. And most of Greece players are from the Greek SUper League where Adu and E Johnson play. Greeks are not that skilled at all.

  6. South Korea has been a good little teams for quite a few years now. Great counter attack, they studied diving and have pace.

  7. and a Beautiful dive by South Korea to win the free kick…

You are right on the atmosphere, the noise is ridiculous and totally ruins anything good about watching the game. When someone scores you can’t even hear anything – it’s like nothing happened because the noise is exactly the same.

Thank you FIFA for addressing the concerns of the ENTIRE world when it came to this.

  8. I’m actually starting to dig the vuvuzelas! I think they add to the excitement and will be awesome in the later stages.

  9. is it mandatory to play a 4-3-3/4-5-1?? Greece looks so uncomfortable but it is the formation de jour so why not play it I guess.

  10. South Korea looks good. That may be aided by very poor play from the Greeks, but I don’t think the Koreans will be an easy out in the next round (assuming they make it ahead of Nigeria).

  11. I picked South Korea to win this one 1-0 but it might end up being much higher scoring.

Attendance does look low, not really a big world matchup.
The field does look a bit rugged.

  12. The Greek players are disgustingly adept at milking fouls. As some might call it, they are cynical players. They’re not going to be winning any FAIR play awards.

  13. When it comes to Greece, a lot of people mistake their lack of attacking prowess for defensive inclination. They haven’t been strong defensively for some time.

  14. The advantage is with South Korea now because Greece can’t play their game as long as they are losing. If South Korea really wants to win this game they better score another goal before Greece ties it because Greece will go right back to the ultra defense if they tie it.

  15. man, defender didn’t even jump.

I think this is going to be a much more fun game to watch than yesterday’s garbage.

  16. ugh, MLS level attendance but 5,000 vuvuzelas. just like the confed cup, those damned horns are ruining the atmosphere of the match, and making it difficult to even watch on tv. and i did NOT expect that goal by S. Korea. Terrible defending by the Greeks.

  17. I thought Greece might actually be adopting an offensive pose, at least to start, but did you notice that only one person went into the last quarter of the field on that “attack” by Greece?

  18. This looks like the first game where there is attendance issues. I thought they said there would be no empty seats on TV for any match.

  19. I intend to watch ALL the games, although this is one where I was kind of like ‘meh’. Hopefully they put on a good show. I’m really looking forward to see how Argentina perform, and I believe there’s some other game being played later today…
