La Liga and Serie A are back in action this weekend to give us a full complement of European matches on a packed menu of weekend soccer action on TV.

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will both be on TV this weekend as we get to see how much better the Spanish powers have gotten this off-season. In Italy, AC Milan and Juventus are two of the teams who will begin their chase of defending champions Inter Milan.

In England, American goalkeepers Brad Friedel and Tim Howard renew their rivalry as Aston Villa faces Everton, while Jermaine Jones and Schalke will meet Steve Cherundolo and Hannover 96 in German Bundesliga action.

In MLS, Freddie Ljungberg's return to Qwest Field for the first time since being traded to Chicago will make for great drama, while the New York-San Jose match features two teams coming off impressive victories.

Which matches are you most looking forward to? Think Seattle fans will boo Ljungberg? Who do you see winning between Howard's Everton and Friedel's Aston Villa?

Share your thoughts below.

  1. As of right now I can find anything, anywhere (other than here) stating this game is on ESPN. Not on ESPN’s site, not on the Fire’s website, not on Seattle’s site, not on the League’s website. So I won’t hold my breath.

  2. Ives, one listing that caught my eye was “Noon- DirecTV- Hercules vs. Athletic Bilbao”. Any idea which DirecTv channel this is? Is DTV offering additional coverage?

(SBI-DirecTV shows La Liga games, a few each weekend. I believe the games are shown on channels in the 460s. This isn’t new. They did the same thing last year. It usually games featuring the non-glamour teams.)

  3. One correction, Telemundo does not have Monterrey-Jaguares 8pm EST Saturday, their game will be Chivas-Pumas. I believe Telemundo has a deal with Chivas for their home games.

Monterrey couldn’t agree on a deal to have their home games broadcast on TV, so they are broadcasting on the internet. Don’t know if it’s free, or what the situation is with their away games.

  4. another good one that collects a variety of streams of varying quality/formats/languages (although they don’t really pick up MLS games) is

  5. I’m relatively new to this site so forgive me if I break a rule or two but what sites do you guys use to catch games online? If its against the rules to ask then just ignore/delete this comment.

  6. I love the fact that we’ve reached a point in this country that we have such a plethra of choices when it comes to what game we want to watch. It wasn’t all that long ago when the only game you would see was the occasional delayed EPL game on Fox Sports Channel at some obscure hour. This is awesome!

  7. I believe in the following weeks, since the season hasn’t begun, you’ll see some La I
Liga matches pop up. However, ESPN is notorious for failing to updating their listings for European soccer matches.

    makes dvr utilization difficult.

  8. So did ESPN renew to have La Liga this year or are they back on GOLTV excusively? I see one game on ESPN Deportes this weekend.
