SBI MLS Spotlight: Mehdi Ballouchy

  1. It was an approximation of the wittiness of your nickname. You have cows. Hilarious link right? I guess it’s bad that someone thinks NYC is a cool enough town to build a great team and stadium. I guess Columbus is pretty cool too. No corporation would care enough about Columbus to have anything to do with it.

  2. Moo Crew? Is that supposed to make sense? It is fun to come up with nicknames, but it helps for them to have a basis in reality. See, the Ener(ahem) Red Bulls are just one big corporate logo. I don’t know what the Crew have to do with cows, but I suppose that was a nice try.

  3. Not sneaking in, no, but having the second best record in the East hardly means the team is hot. Columbus had the best team over the length of last season and bowed out in the first round to the #8 seed.

  4. I’m interested in seeing what Ballouchy will bring to the table for the Red Bulls. I don’t feel that he’s ever really had enough to work with at his previous teams. We’ll see how he meshes with Angel and Henry.

  5. And as for getting hot at the end…you do realize that NY has been hot for quite a while and they’re currently a firm 2nd seed in the East right? Not exactly sneaking in.

  6. Bad day at the office?
The guys in hardhats on your Moo Crew logo are pretty snazzy. See? Isn’t it the best to come up with lame nicknames?

Good luck Mehdi. Interested to see if he gets any time tonight.

  7. Maybe you’re right, but I can only go by what I’ve watched during his time in Colorado and it has been less than impressing. I stand by my original comment that I’m glad he didn’t land on my team.

As for the NY Energy Drinks making it to the MLS finals? Good luck with that. Then again, who knows; they might get hot and make a run like RSL did last year. The MLS playoffs and Cup are a sad joke after all.

  8. I played with Mehdi at Santa Clara and he is no thug. Albeit he has a temper, but so do all the best at their sport. Mehdi was one of the most talented on the ball players I’ve had the chance to play with. I think he will fit in seamlessly with the Red Bulls attack and think they will end up in the finals this year. Best of luck Ballouchy, the Moroccan assassin.

  9. Seriously, the guy’s a thug. Watching him play for Colorado, I’m just glad he didn’t end up on the team I support. Good luck NY Energy Drinks. You can have him.

  10. Seriously, tho, Colorado’s a crap hole right? RIGHT? hahaha.

To be honest, I’m looking forward to seeing how he fits in. NYRB have made a lot of moves to get here. They/MLS in general are really hoping it pays off. And, to be fair, we all are hoping it pays off.

  11. Just read up on Ballouchy on Wikipedia. Here’s a guy who really earned his way, playing through the youth teams, college and the MLS reserves until he broke in and got his shot in Salt Lake in ’06. As a fan I love those kind of stories…
