Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew: Your Running Commentary

The Chicago Fire could see its playoff dreams dashed tonight unless it can hand the Columbus Crew a loss tonight when the Eastern Conference rivals square off at Toyota Park tonight (9pm, Direct Kick).

The Crew will be looking to keep the pressure on the New York Red Bulls for first place in the East, while also looking to erase the bad taste left by its recent U.S. Open Cup final loss to the Seattle Sounders.

Chicago will be playing for its playoff lives without goalkeeper Sean Johnson, who has been sidelined with an eye injury. Andre Dykstra is set to step in for the rookie standout.

If you will be watching tonight's match, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. anybody notice that on first goal, Lowry turned Chad Marshall inside out. Marshall was a defender of the year once and was seen as national team material, but seems to have fallen out of serious consideration by Bradley. don’t see him much. Has he lost form?

  2. I don’t doubt that the car accident affected him psychologically and maybe this was some demons coming out on a really bad day, but he needs to get himself together because from here on out he’s going to be judged like every other professional soccer player and it’s a cruel world.

  3. Yeah it was 125 mph. That’s not run-of-the-mill speeding. That’s reckless and I’m surprised after what he’s been through.

  4. Um, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t driving in the first crash. I don’t think any of us know if he did anything wrong the first time other than breaking curfew. On this one, there’s no doubt, assuming the stories are all accurate.

  5. Let’s not be too judgmental. There are a few perfectly innocuous explanations. Maybe he reaaaally had to go to the bathroom. And with a surgically repaired bladder, can you really blame him for flooring it? Or maybe he thought he had crossed the border into Germany.

  6. I love Charlie, but seriously dude is an idiot. He’s damn lucky to be alive and he’s going 125 mph? It’s not like he was on the autobahn. Stupid.

  7. Lowry’s goal showed quite a bit of skill… first controlling with the outside of his left foot, then snap shooting with the outside of his right. If Ljungberg did that the announcer would crow for 10 minutes about it. Good job Lowry!

  8. He was driving 201 kph=125mph.

Where are all the Davies apoligists now. He was a fool when he had his first crash, and he’s still a fool now. Except now he’s a fool that can’t lay football half as well as before.

  9. The article said 125 Mph, not Kph! Either way, this isn’t gonna get him out of Sochaux’s or Bradley’s doghouse. (Especially the former, since he may be showing himself to be a long-term liability who can’t be trusted to make the right decision.)

  10. The USMNT will need Rogers’ speed if Charlie Davies keeps driving 125 mph like he was caught doing in France the other day.
