Thierry Henry isn't one to mince words, so when he was asked about Robert Pires' recent comments claiming that Henry had asked him to come to MLS and New York, Henry wasted no time shooting the whole idea down. He made it clear his former Arsenal teammate was mistaken by proceeding to rip his good friend and long-time teammate for talking too much.
Take a listen (starting at the 1:55 mark):
I actually like Henry more after listening to this interview!
Was waiting for Titi to finish by saying “Stay thirsty, my friends…”
+1
that was hilarious!
As I hear it, Henry isn’t denying anything. Mostly, he’s just peeved that Pires brought him into this in public. He probably did have some discussion previously with Pires about this. Whether he promised to help or not may be beside the point. He might have been humoring Pires, or he might just want to stay behind the scenes and having Pires talk about it isn’t helpful. Or, maybe Pires is making it up. Can’t say based on what Thierry said, except to say he’s not pleased.
Never gonna happen. Pires basically said that Philly and the Union are trash. He said he’s envious of Henry for playing with NY.
Dig the audio link. Good for the commute.
are you trying to downplay thierry? He is EASILY the best player to ever play in the MLS… and just because you have personal problems with NYRB or Henry, dont be immature and try to sound superior.. because you are nothing.
Pires Vs. Henry for East Supremecy!…Make it happen!!!
Eurogeek
He’s old but he adds class just like a GBS or Blanco would. MLS shouldn’t have let go of those 2.
Thierry actually sounded interested in that question. who knew?
Thank you Mr. Henry
I found it pretty funny as well. Seems like he isn’t afraid to speak his mind, even if it means calling out a friend like that.
It was a funny answer, and he seemed genuinely pleased to be asked the question (for once). Glad it was posted here, I probably wouldn’t have seen it otherwise.
This is the second interview with Henry that I’ve heard/seen on this site. Both made me laugh hysterically. Was he this entertaining in France, Italy and England or is it just the old man thing? I love it!
I wouldn’t want Pires, he’s 38 and at this point he would be a waste of space and even attention at this point. NYRB or any other big MLS club are better off getting a Del Piero or Drogba for 2 maybe 3 yrs if their looking for a well-known player. MLS clubs should look at limiting the age if a DP is old or considered it, they should think about getin a palyer that’s in the 29-32 range, not an old sponge near forty, I’d rather get a sponge when its still able to clean up, thats why I brought it for. By the way, I like fishsticks with mac and cheese, with a coke as a drink.
another foreign player trying to negotiate a contrcat by using MLS as a bargaining chip…He shouldn’t have brought up Henry’s name though.
Listen…….. to my stomach growl for a better story, worth hearing about!!
Must-read comment: so what?
at least someone pays attention to MLS…
looks better than pires… the two are just about the same age too
Philadelphia isn’t beautiful
Some guys still have it late into their 30’s. Pires is not one of those people. He plays like the old guy in a Sunday league.
And feel free to say the obvious “well he’s at Villa so he must not suck” argument… but lets be honest here, dude doesn’t have much of anything left in him.
Pires needs to go to the Union and play against Henry…He would help Philly tremendously
