Mix Diskerud may not have been called into the U.S. men's national team for its upcoming friendly against Mexico, but he's making quite the case for himself to get the call in September.

Diskerud continued his strong season with Stabaek IF on Friday, hitting the equalizing goal in the club's 2-1 victory over Fredrikstad. The win raised Stabaek to sixth place in Tippeligaen, and the goal was Diskerud's third of the season.

Two other players found the back of the net, too. Jozy Altidore netted the final goal in his AZ Alkmaar debut, a 3-1 win over PSV Eindhoven, while Sacha Kljestan scored off a penalty kick in RSC Anderlecht's 3-1 triumph against Mechelen.

Not all of the focus was towards the goal-scorers, though. Timmy Chandler, who was replaced on the U.S. roster so as to recover from an injury, started and went the distance in FC Nurnberg's 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin. Chandler is reportedly going to play in both of the U.S. team's September friendlies, but he will miss the Mexico match despite being fit enough to play.

What do you think of these performances? Do you see Diskerud getting called into at least one of the September friendlies? How many goals do you see Altidore scoring this season? Still upset with Nurnberg?

  1. Buddle scored 19 goals. I read his salary is double what LA paid him so somewhere around $376k. MLS can’t afford that?

  2. He had a stretch in the 2nd half where he ‘gave’ away long passes into space onto which no one ran…the question is should someone have been making that run…

As static as the offense was, I’d say yes. Not to discount the turnovers, but clearly he and his wings/forwards were not on the same page.

  3. Chandler was placed on the roster before they talked to Nuremburg. After talking to the club, they didn’t want to send him overseas, but said he would be clear to play in the two friendlies in Europe.

  4. Actually the goalie for the frech team had played in the youth system, he may have been part of the u-20 setup…he was a starter for the evian team that just gained promotion, prior to that he spent several years at troyes as both a back up and starter…the 2010-2011 season was his first at evian…

  5. The goalie in ligue 1 is a backup goalie of a newly promoted team. The current starting goalie I think has been injured for another 3+ weeks. But why isn’t yelldell starting? He didn’t play well against Dresden.. And cervi is number 2 now!!!

  6. For those curious,
“Also on Fagundez’s list of decisions is his international future. Uruguay’s national team program is interested in recruiting Fagundez for the Under-20s, according to a source. Fagundez was born in Uruguay and is ineligible to play for the United States.”

In the article from the Globe, Fagundez said the US has not expressed any interest in him or helping him on the path towards citizenship.

  7. Wait…WHAT? There is an American goalkeeper at age 25 playing as a starter in the Ligue 1 of France. I hope I hear more from him.

  8. I don’t believe that when I look at what MLS teams are actually giving out in wages and get away with due to a crazy financial salary cap system the league puts forward. It would not be difficult for every MLS team now to shoulder a $5-$6M wage bill per season and not run into NASL problems, they just need to do away with the DP rule and not bring in players asking for $5-6M a season.

Having said that, if we bring back all these Scandanavian/lower European division players to MLS, and we keep our rosters at a set number, say 30, where are all the academy/draft players going to go? May sound crazy, but it’s actually better for these guys to go abroad, it frees up spots for the young academy and college players to get MLS time. Welcome to the global economy.

  9. I’m so happy that DMBeasley is getting one more chance. At his best, he was really good. And it’s cool he’s doing it in Mexico now. Love the mixing across borders.

Any idea what happened with these two? Not really a good sign.

  11. And if that happen we might see MLS go out of business just like the NASL. The increase can only go at a rate less then the league’s profitability or the amount the owners’ are willing to lose. But I agree that all 21 of these kids should play in MLS though just playing in europe is no guarantee of starting in MLS. Far from it.

  12. Really? Because USSF didn’t ask him if he wanted to play on Wed. before putting him on the list for a middle of the week friendly for a team he has only played half a season for.

  13. Yeah and Acuna wants to play for the US at least so they should probably include him over Corona unless Klinsmann can change his mind since he said that when Bradley was the coach.

  14. Dolla dolla bil yall!

It’s true tho, Edson Buddle wasn’t going to make more than maybe 400K with the Galaxy, despite being an eh forward for a team in the 2nd division in Germany, he’s probably making about 900K Euros, not dollars. So he’s well above double of what he made in the states, maybe more like triple? I don’t know how much he’s getting.

That’s why I hope after the current Collective Bargaining Agreement gets renegotiated, by then the Salary cap should be around 3.6 or 3.7 million dollars, I hope they raise it to about 5.5 or 6 million and keep increasing by 5 or 10% every year

That would keep all the guys in Scandinvia and 2nd divisions in Europe to stay

  15. do not put subotic in the same boat as rossi. Rognen was not being professional for calling out subotic play. Rognem should not have been coach for the u-20’s as long as he did. Us soccer should have banned him for that.

  16. Why is corona on here if he wants to play for mexico. To bad that bradley did not play i bet he is miserable. Also any word on adu situation for club ?

  17. you forgot to mention that DaMarcus Bealsey got awarded a penalty = 99% of a Goal.

Do you even watch the replays or hightlights?

    I don’t think so

  18. Will be even more did not dress in England this year as the Football League reduced the number of subs on the bench this season from 7 to 5.

  19. i watched the last hour or so of the game and didn’t think that jones played horrible. having said that, he certainly didn’t impart himself on the game in a way you would like to see a capable central mid do. stuttgart had the majority of the possession and chances during the portion of the game i saw

  20. I’m sure Chandler will be at the next two friendlies, as reports say he committed to both games, but I’ve already accepted the fact that he might end up switching anyway. I HOPE he doesn’t, however our HOPES have been stomped on in the past by a few guys named Rossi and Subotic.

  21. The players probably could care less since they are probably making double or triple the salary MLS would offer. When MLS can out-pay Scandanavian and second tier euro leagues, then these players will come home.

  22. Maybe Chandler(‘s coach) didn’t want to be called in for a useless USSF money-grab at the start of a new season for him? If he doesn’t play in the Belgium game without a legit injury, then I’ll be concerned.

  23. If anyone believes not dressing or not playing is truly good for improving these players and US soccer than you’re out of your mind. Imagine what the above 21 players who did not dress or play could do to improve the quality of MLS.

  24. WTF, Chandler was supposedly recovering from an injury. I don’t care what the media is reporting, I still have my suspicions he’s committed to play for the U.S.

  25. and i thought MLS was the only league that postponed league matches for meaningless friendlies. Turns out the leagues in Scotland and Mexico do it too.
