The Chicago Fire needed to come from behind to defeat Toronto FC this past weekend, and it was Austin Berry who delivered the goal that secured the three points for Chicago.
Along with helping limit Toronto FC to one goal inside of a soaked Toyota Park, Berry headed home the winner in the Fire's 2-1 victory on Saturday. The goal was the centerback's third of the season and came after Marco Pappa had negated TFC's opening goal, helping him claim SBI's MLS Rookie of the Week award.
Berry beat out Seattle Sounders midfielder Andy Rose and Montreal Impact forward Andrew Wenger to claim this week's honors.
What do you think of Berry's performance? What rookie impressed you the most last week? Starting to see Berry as a rookie of the year front-runner?
Share your thoughts below.
I think Berry is deserving of rookie of the week most weeks, but why does a defender have to score a goal to get much attention?
Was wondering that myself. Drafted 2011, didn’t play for the Sounders, even cut. Signed this year.
He is looking great.
Then you need to watch it again.
yeah that was one of the better plays in the MLS this week, though I’m not sure the rest of his game was that exceptional
I actually loved the run and move in the box that Nick Deleon made to get DCU their 3 points with the winning goal. He didn’t even get an assist for it but it only happened due to his determination. Surprised his play didn’t get him mentioned.
Berry destroyed that header!
Isn’t Alex Caskey an MLS rookie?
(SBI-Nope. He played for the Charleston Battery last season.)
