Terrence Boyd's start to the season has been better than many could have imagined, and he continued his run of good form by inspiring Rapid Vienna to their latest victory.

Three days after scoring a goal that helped Rapid Vienna advance to the Europa League group stage, the young U.S. men's national team striker netted a brace that included the winner in the Austrian club's 3-0 victory over SV Mattersburg. Boyd now has four goals in league play and six across all competitions in his first month-and-a-half with Rapid Vienna.

Boyd was not the only American to find the back of the net. Jermaine Jones scored his first goal of the season for Schalke 04, firing home the decisice strike in their 3-1 triumph over FC Augsburg on Saturday. Jones made a dribbling run from deep on the right flank and he finished by burying a low shot to the far post, helping Schalke earn their first three points of the Bundesliga season.

It was not all good news, however. Three days after Josh Gatt delivered an assist to help Molde FK advance to the group stage of the Europa League, Gatt suffered his latest setback by way of injury in Molde's 4-1 loss to Brann on Sunday. Gatt dished out an assist in the match, but he was forced to come out after 66 minutes due to a hamstring injury.

What do you think of these performances? How many goals do you see Boyd scoring this season? Do you see Jones and Schalke having a big campaign? Concerned by Gatt's latest injury?

  1. I love to see Gatt with the National team but everytime he gets a call up for the USNMT or Under National Team he gets hurt. Is he that fragile that he gets hurt all the time or it just coincident that he get hurt when is time to represent your country. Is time to let chandler be and give him time to decide what he really wants. I would of love to see more players from the U23.

  2. I’m a little superstitious.

I remember Agudelo and Bunbury doing the “dougie”. Now they are both on the outside looking in for the moment.

  3. This is hilarious.

A few years ago when Bradley was using Edu at centerback he was excoriated.

Now you have Edu as part of Young & Lethal.

  4. There is something about the prospect of having Dempsey, Boyd and Altidore in the middle waiting for a cross on the ground or in the air. CONCACAF defenders be afraid. Be very afraid.

  5. Even seeing the words “Dempsey did not dress for Tottenham Hotspur” is beautiful. No offense to FFC, but I love it that we have Yanks at the likes of Roma and Tottenham.

  6. Totally agree w/ Lost in Space. Count me among the USMNT fans that is pissed off/frustrated w/ the Chandler situation. A big part of me thinks “to hell w/ you Timmy C!”, but lets be honest, he is great player. Picture a backline with Fabian, Geoff, Mo, and Timmy. Young & Lethal.

  7. I hope Guzan getting the start is the rule, and not just a single exception. Given has really been relaying on reputation for about a year now rather than performance – my opinion.

Its too bad that another team with a couple yanks (Villa) is going to be teetering on edge of relegation again.

  8. I am a huge fan of Terrence Boyd, but gotta say, and I am probably in the minority here: I am not a big fan of celebration dances after goals, especially on national teams.

  9. No one is running Chandler out of town–he decided all by his little ol’ self to run away from the USMNT. And I say: Good riddance!

  10. On first glance, you idea truly captures my imagination. But then I start thinking who would go in the three remaining three midfield positions and it gets a bit difficult. It would be a huge defensive risk. I think it would have to be a 4-3-3. Anyway, if Klinsmann did want to risk it, maybe something like this and, yeah, I would love to see a line-up like this one time:

    –Jozy——-Boyd——Gomez–

    Shea—-J. Jones—–Dempsey

    Fabian–Cameron–Edu–Dolo

  11. Awesome! Keep it up and you’ll get your side promoted to 7th Division and that’s where the scouts start watching! You really don’t want a call up. Think how much this board would bash you. 😉

    Seriously though, good work.

  12. i think he had an open invitation. so he is just going to chill for this cycle or until Germany gives him an invite to a friendly.

  13. Do any of you have any facts?

For example did Juergen ask him if he wanted to play in this series and did he say no?

Maybe you should all wait until someone asks JK during his conference call on these call ups before running Chandler out of town.

  14. Disagree….so long as he has the chance to represent the US he should still be on the list of American’s Abroad. Chandler is too good of a player for us to throw him out of the pool. Yes we still have Dolo and we have Lichaj…but the deeper the pool the stronger the team. Besides Dolo won’t be around forever…and outside Lichaj who else do we have that can step in? (Alston, D. Williams, S. Williams, & Morales are all still unproven as RB’s)

  15. all considered a decent week for the USNT players abroad. The younger players are getting good experience, while the Old Gard keep rolling on. Looking forward to the Qualifiers to see how the team performs.

Don’t see this happening in Kingston, but would be very offensive minded. Think we’re more likely one of these

  17. Boyd’s Twitter is pretty entertaining. Looks like he gets along really well with both the youth and senior USMNT players.

  18. I heard JJ felt like he never fit in with German culture. They don’t like his rebellious nature… or something like that. I think he wants to move to the US, but he’ll probably live in germany during the bundesliga season.

  19. Agree.

Chandler should not be included in Americans Abroad until he demonstrates that he should be. He has turned his back on the opportunity too many times, after saying last year how much it meant to him to play for the USA.

  20. Boyd is a straight boss. Would love to see a really attacking formation against Jamaica with boyd, gomez, and jozy up top and clint sitting underneath them.

  21. He probably overestimated his level. I’ve seen him play this year and he has not looked good enough for the swedish second division. It makes sense that Hammarby sends him out on loan.

  22. The fact people consistently bring up how inconvenient it is for one’s club situation to travel across the Atlantic while they could be resting and training with the team to me is a solid reminder that the American-Germans I think really do care about the USMNT and the US.

It’s one thing to be Pepe, where you have a 2 hour flight to Portugal from Spain for your games, but to give up what these guys are doing, the possibility of playing in a World Cup just isn’t worth it if you aren’t already wanting to represent that country.

Plus, check out Jermaine Jone’s twitter feed, he’s moving to LA full time now, Terrence Boyd probably is more outwardly rah-rah ‘murica than anybody else on the team (not a good or bad thing, just an observation), Danny Williams was crying when he got his first call-up for the Miami game last year, etc.

  23. One guy who won’t be making these lists anytime soon is Billy Schuler. Remember him? Didn’t want to get tied to a 4-5 year Generation Adidas deal, so he signed in Sweden.

He has now been loaned to a club in Sweden’s 4th tier. Playing bartenders and house DJs at that level…

  24. Been waiting to say this!

I played 17 minutes and scored a GOAL in my 8th level league Swiss team’s 2-2 draw.

And I would gladly give up my fighting for a first team spot for a call up against Jamaica…
