It took no time for the Chicago Fire to decide to bring back their defensive rock in 2013.
Just days after the Fire’s season ended at the hands of the Houston Dynamo, the club announced Wednesday it has signed centerback Arne Friedrich to a new deal. Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Friedrich was one of the strongest defenders in MLS during the last few months of the season, and the Fire wanted to make sure the 33-year-old would stick around next year as they look to build continuity in the heart of their defense.
The former German international played in 23 games for Chicago, scoring one goal while also helping the Fire defense limit opponents to just 41 goals.
He originally signed with the club this past March.
What do you think of the Fire re-signing Friedrich? Think he will have an even better season next year?

not a fire fan, but happy to see this.
Very happy to see this. The club was just shy of being one of the leagues elite clubs (coming off a couple of rough seasons) and this move helps keep the Fire in position to take that next step.
Good job Fire for taking care of his contract ASAP!
This is certainly a good start to maintaining core players. Now we just need to build a bit more of an attacking threat. It seems the key ingredient would be an attacking midfielder who can make that final pass to give Rolfe or MacDonald the opportunities to score.
Great move. You saw an immediate impact right away with him.
way to go. Solid player. Really good play in the last WC. He’s such a steal for Chicago.
in deed, not even a DP right?
