SBI Live Q&A: June 18th Edition

It’s that time again. Time to talk all things soccer in this special USMNT Match Day edition of the SBI Live Q&A.

Get your soccer-related questions read as we discuss topics ranging from the U.S. Men’s National Team to MLS to the Confederations Cup and World Cup qualifying around the world.

I will look to answer as many questions as I can over the course of the next hour or so. Feel free to join us in the SBI Live Q&A, after the jump:

  1. great show as always Ives.

Disagree that Landon can’t make this team even better. Good team already, and with LD…even better. we’ll see, I’ve been wrong before, and right.

and what was that part about you not being a USMNT fan…did I misread that?

    • Pretty sure he said LD WOULD be an asset to the team, just that many people seem to be expecting the LD of 2006 and he’s not that player anymore.

      • Pretty sure he said LD WOULD be an a$$et to the team, just that many people seem to be expecting the LD of 2006 and he’s not that player anymore.

  2. Why would SBI quote a Clint Dempsey Q&A? The only stories SBI would quote would be breaking new and rumors. When you start your blog you can write article titles like, “Dempsey Likes To Fish!” good luck with that.

  3. Darn, I missed this. At the doctor’s (getting old ain’t for sissies). I have a question — what do the teams do with the little flags/banners that the team captains exchange after the coin toss at the start of the game? Now will get back and read the Q&A while I wait for the USvHON game on tv.

Whats your favorite soccer podcast other than your own show?

I can’t say that I listen to any others regularly. I’ve heard parts of shows here and there and none really caught my interest. Probably part of the reason I finally decided to launch our own. Hopefully The SBI Show is filling a void that people feel was there.

    It definitely is.

      • Tom’s probably new to the sport and doesn’t understand the difference each role entails. I thought Ives could have mentioned Bradley’s presence on the ball/ability to break up attacks and contribute to his own team’s attack – and how those are the ways Def Midfielders help the team – instead of an opportunity to insult.

      • No, I don’t think that was the case. I think that Tom was trying to be a smarta$$. He asked two loaded questions about Bradley. If you’re “new to the sport” then don’t throw out irrelevant stats and try to make a point. Ives just put him in his place.

  5. I am a huge Roma fan. I am also a huge MB fan. I watched 90% of Rona’s games and if MB wants to move to a bigger club, he needs more technique in the final third. His decisionmaking and finishing was poor all last season when he was going towards the box.

Roma fans almost unanimously consider him a squad player at best. So don’t be dreaming of Bradley in a Man Utd jersey just yet.

    • Last time I checked, Roma fans weren’t running ManU’s management (or, um, Roma), so I’m not sure how they’re going to be involved in deciding this.

      • It would appear he’s talking about the fact that the opinion of Roma fans, regardless of level of unanimity, has absolutely nothing to do with what happens with Bradley.

      • Might as well say water is wet. I don’t see what that has to do with an honest critique of Bradley’s abilities.

      • He was mostly a DM with Roma so didn’t get many chances pushing forward. He did bungle a few chances and had a number of near misses, but we’ve seen with USA that when he is freed up to attack, he becomes much more comfortable. It’s tough to get only one or two chances to push forward every match and be expected to make a great play. MBs role with Roma was to make the smart, safe passes as evidenced by his team leading completion rate.

      • Dude, i am a Roma fan. I watched at least 90% of Roma’s games. Bradley is my favorite player.

He did a good job being a ball winning midfielder. He was consistent and worked hard. But I don’t think Bradley is good enough for a club bigger than Roma. We can argue what clubs are bigger than Roma, but if you are talking Italy’s top 3 or BPL’s top 6 or so – i think you are way off.

Bradley did a good job, but he needs to improve his technique in the final third if he wants to be a big time player.

  6. If Altidore isn’t in the same form (goals, touches, etc.) as a lone striker tonight, do we have enough proof that he can’t play as the focus of the front/attack for the US?

    • Your question sort of contradicts your previous sentence. Jozy played as the focus of the attack for the past few games and played very well. Are you really asking if he is better off playing with other players pushing forward that he can combine with? I don’t think there’s any question about that. He is a good passer and makes good secondary runs off of Dempsey as we saw on his last goal.

  7. What do you think of the International Champions Cup in Miami offering only one ticket option to 2 days’ of double headers instead of offering single day tickets to each of the doubleheaders? I was interested in going to the double header on August 7, but realized I’d have to buy a ticket for at least $125 for both August 6 and August 7. Very strange. With my family, I’d have to buy 3 tix @ $375.
