After two weeks off, The SBI Show is back and we have plenty to catch up on as the MLS off-season is in full swing.
Episode 98 of The SBI Show catches up on all the action that has already taken place this MLS off-season, including blockbuster trades involving the likes of Eddie Johnson and Chad Marshall, as well as the hiring of several coaches, including Jason Kreis by New York City FC.
Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also take a look back at the MLS Cup Final, and also discuss the World Cup draw, and why the U.S. Men’s National Team are in good shape heading to Brazil.
Give Episode 98 of The SBI Show a listen after the jump:

What did you think of the show? Glad to have us back? Which off-season move so far has surprised you the most in MLS?

A quick note on LMS team moves. Garrett and Ives were discussing Jermaine DeFoe to Toronto FC and when I hear big names mentioned with respect to MLS move,…I have my doubts. How about this gem from Frank Ribery,…..MLS brass take note:
“In Europe, there will be no other club, but it would be a bonus for me if there can be another continent after that,” he said. “I could be tempted to go to a country like the U.S. or maybe the Emirate, but I would not count that as part of my real career.”
“BUT I WOULD NOT COUNT THAT AS PART OF MY REAL CAREER.” – there you go! That sums it up. MLS should take note. This is one of the best players in the world simply saying,…your league is joke. Commissioner Garber,…here is a recommendation,…institute a rule that no teams can sign DPs over 30. Force league executives to find the diamonds in the rough. Sign good young talent and keep those players in the league rather than letting them skip off to some second rate Euro-team for a little more dosh. For example,…I would rather see a team like KC splash out some money to keep Roger Espinoza than see him go off to Wigan (!!) and then watch the Red Bulls consider re-signing Henry. Think Roberto Cabanas.
Again, complements to Garrett, who is improving leaps and bounds with every show – much more settled, thoughtful, considered, mature, sharp, etc. Well done.
Excellent show, guys. I just thought the two of you were taking a holiday break or something.
First, what happened to Episodes 91 and 97 on here? I don’t recall them ever being released, and they’re not listed on your archive. It appears initially that there are only 96 official episodes the public have been able to access.
Second, I have to say I disagree with your analysis of the Klinsmann extension. Every coach for the national team is expected to do well at the World Cup as part of their duty as manager. Klinsmann was hired to take the overall program up “another level” from the youngins to the seniors, in addition to performing well in Brazil next summer. It was my understanding that this hire was going to be for the long term and not just for this cycle. Besides, if things go turn into a complete mess, the USSF surely will make the proper adjustments and move on from JK.
Last, I’m indifferent on the Dempsey loan. He would have to go to January Camp otherwise, and with a likely friendly or two in February, there wouldn’t be much of a difference in how much time Clint misses with Seattle anyways…
“… if things do turn…”
Both episode 91 and 97 were released and appeared on the site. They were originally not listed in the episode section on the site, but the posts promoting them did appear and were always on the site. That’s been fixed now.
Cool, thanks…
And I commented on both, too. Short memory…
If this is Episode 98, where is Episode 97?
Episode 97 was always on the site, but wouldn’t show up under the show’s section because it wasn’t correctly labeled. That was the case for Episode 97 and 91, but it’s been fixed now.
Ah good. I didn’t know about the two week break and thought perhaps you had invited Garrett to KC and ten fired him. Hah!
Or killed and eaten him. One or the other, obviously.
If Dempsey stayed at Seattle and didn’t go on loan would Klinsmann keep him as captain?
Ives,
That is the best musical intro for the show! It’s a keeper.
Yea, that’s the third time you’ve used “Warm It Up Kane.” Its a banger! Dig it.
Definitely not the third time. We’ve never used it.
