For the first time since leaving on July 1 to take over as manager of Manchester United, David Moyes will face his former club Everton on Wednesday.
Moyes spent 10 seasons at Goodison Park building Everton into a side capable of beating most teams on any day, but new manager Roberto Martinez has taken the squad a step further with their attractive attacking play and the goal-scoring form of on-loan forward Romelu Lukaku. With both teams on long unbeaten runs, this is a match that you won’t want to miss.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, eight more matches take place midweek as Arsenal host Hull City, Sunderland host Chelsea, and Stoke City face Cardiff City.
Around Europe, Bayern Munich travel to Augsburg in the German Cup, Inter Milan host Trapani in the Coppa Italia, and Paris Saint-Germain visit Evian TG. In the evening, the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final takes place as Brazilian side Ponte Preta host Argentinian club Lanus.

Lots of talking points from today’s games but it should be noted that Timmy had a mighty solid game!!!!
So… if Sunderland won’t defend and the midfield will rely on Jozy to create free kicks, why not Fletcher and Altidore together up top?
And yes, the midfield is horrible, but they don’t seem to be any better with 5 in the middle than with 4.
looks like Jozy was active and involved all game. i didn’t get to see it, this is just judging based on multiple live commentaries. he scored and drew multiple free kicks. two of which led to goals. on the first, he draws the foul, then ends up scoring afterwards. then in the 85th it looks like he drew the free kick that turned into a corner which they then scored off of. good job Jozy, build off that!
Every time he got the ball with any kind of space whatsoever, he was running at and beating people with the ball. I haven’t seen him do that consisitently since AZ. Unfortunately, Sunderland is too stupid to recognize the hot hand and get him the ball.
Chelsea need to do something about the defense or lack thereof.
NBC has changed the face of soccer. We are now getting coverage of all the matches still playing.
I know. I was streaming multiple games while working (albeit inefficiently). During the weekend, I usually have one on the TV and another on my tablet or computer (which I switch right away on my google tv). I love technology AND a broadcaster that knows how to use it.
The only thing to contemplate is whether to kick in for Bein TV so I can get la liga/ligue 1/calcio as well
totally worth it. i think i pay $5 extra a month for the tier with beIN. and with it comes NFL network and a some other stuff i watch. plus beIN has mobile now too…although i think it is currently limited to PC. i believe the app is still being developed.
Chelsea sucks. Nobody should struggle this much against Sunderland.
Sunderland should be really pleased with that. They finally showed they might have something to keep them in the PL.
If not for the pathetic own-goal. Did I mention it was PATHETIC!
We’re at the point now where United should seriously, seriously consider eating Moyes contract.
They are now in real danger of missing out on any European competition next season,
overreact much? …and I am not a ManUtd fan. Moyes has shown he is a good coach. Give him time.
He has?
Because United just fell to 9th place in the EPL and they are 12 points out of first and are losing at home. At this point they’ll be lucky if they grab the last Europa spot because they aren’t coming close to the Champions League.
ManU fans must be very frustrated to finally see the mortality of an aging and egotistical side only SAF (and his iconic credibility) could manage. Given SAF’s legacy, 9th sucks. But it’s still not bad, and ManU have the $ and another half of a season to climb back into a UEFA spot. Moyes is class. Give him time.
The team isn’t what it used to be, but who else do you bring in? Give Moyes another season as long as they fnish in the top half.
They’re an aging squad that’s over reliant on rvp for moments of individual brilliance to steal results.
The only manager who could get this team back in the top four is SAF.
Johnson – ugh. Terrible.
Adam Johnson is a SELFISH bast*rd. Wow.
You’re getting sacked in the morning! You’re getting sacked in the morning! You’re getting sacked in the morning!
Chelsea time-wasting
6 mins, Lol.
The FA or whoever handles officiating for the EPL should be forced to issue a statement on this game. It started out pretty even with the calls, but to not send of either Rooney or Fellaini is simply inexcusable.
Rooney should have seen a definitive red card for intentional violent play. Fellaini left gashes down the thigh of a player with no contact on the ball and his studs above waist height.
I can see an argument that Fellaini could get off with a yellow card, but nothing at all?
That own goal was absolutely pathetic. Dumb moments like that are common place for relegation bound teams. Right as I say that Bardsley gets one back.
Sunderland just plain has too many low football IQ players. They don’t make smart passes or position themselves smartly and someone is bound to make a shambolic error each match. It’s a shame because the other players aren’t half bad, but they are fighting uphill to battle the morons.
This is why I’m an Everton fan. Their wins are a joy to behold.
WHERE ARE THE CARDS FOR UNITED
Holy god this is insane and I don’t even care who wins. My word you can do anything you want if you wear the United jersey.
Er…. how is that not at least a yellow card for Fellaini.
Seriously, though that’s easily a red card. Easily.
Yeah I missed the rooney incident but shocking that fellaini is still on right now. Then a weird non-yellow for nani.
Hopefully everton sneak a winner here, I really like martinez.
Are we nearing greatest single performance in premier league history right now with this game by Suarez? I think we are.
This is other-worldly.
Súarez nets his 4th. This off a free kick. Unreal.
I just hopped on…Is Jozy playing wide?
Not at all. He’s the man up top in the 4-2-3-1.
See him up there now..He was really wide for 3-4 minutes
I think they started in more of a 4-3-3
Switched to everton in time to see two united penalty appeals waved off and like five incredible saves from howard.
Okay two incredible saves from howard.
No one should have any questions about who the US no. 1 keeper is.
This is the first time in a while I’ve recognized the old Howard. He’s never bad, but he’s finally looking like a monster again. Greatly relieved.
Yeah, he’s put together a string of really good games. The derby wasn’t his fault at all.
He’s been great for Everton all season
Indeed. Up the Toffees!!
I’m watching the arsenal game but it sounds like united should be down to eight men but for the vast conspiracy?
Rooney should certainly be gone. He came in well after the ball was gone and intentionally kicked an Everton player when the ref turned around and followed through with a shoulder/arm to the face.
It was pretty ridiculously dirty.
Rooney could have gotten a red for stepping into Jagielka off the ball with some elbow, but other than that, it’t been a pretty fair game.
Man Poo blah blah blah (I agree they get assistance from the refs)… …now with that out of the way, the real story is Timmy’s play stoning well taken shots, especially a wicked snap header by Wayne Rooney to keep things level.
That wasn’t a red card because…. UNITED!
Wayne Rooney should be gone.
Period. THis guy is a PIECE OF FREAKING GARBAGE.
Kicks another player off the ball. No red.
for the sake of your health, you should probably stop watching this game.
RageE@@@#$#@!!!!
Okay, done.
+100
Another terrible call from Atkinson gifting United a dangerous free kick.
I didn’t know you could lean into someone while running and when they move away and you fall it’s their fault.
Lukaku just hit Smalling so hard in the chest with that shot he was moved backward on impact. Insane.
Goal John O’Shea!!!
Jozy outruns Ramirez with the ball and draws a yellow.
Haha
So the half time highlights were literally ONLY Man United shots. Not a single clip of Everton and their better chances. Not one single Everton highlight shown.
God it’s awful watching United games.
If they dont show when a team actually scores against man u, they dont have to count the goal. It’s actually 2 nil to Everton now ; )
Odd move by the Sunderland defender on Hazards goal. He was deliberately forcing him inside onto his right foot for a perfect angle. You have to force the shooter to the outside of course, that’s youth soccer stuff. Is Hazards right foot that bad? Certainly didn’t look bad. Seems so stupid.
Suarez has 10 goals in his last 4 games against Norwich. LOL wut?
Classic Jozy goal there. He looks like he’s trying to do everything a little quicker, adjusting to BPL.
The homer calls United get at home are insane. Vidic gets torched after trying to knock Lukakau over, and Lukakau shrugs the foul off and Lukaku is called for the foul.
Another Everton fast break taken away from them by Martin I LOVE THE RED DEVILS Atkinson.
If the ref was really a homer, he’d have called two penalties, a dangerous free kick opportunity, and wouldn’t have allowed play on when a free kick would have been more to United’s advantage.
Vidic gave Lukaku an elbow shielded by the Belgium’s massive body, and Lukaku pushed back for the perceived foul. It was the wrong call, but to call him a homer based on that is pretty unfair. He’s been spot on most of the night.
ManU games are unwatchable. Atkinson is making MLs refs look good.
Súarez hat trick!
I knew it
Súarez = Goal Scoring Machine
He’s getting a hat trick today.
Really dumb foul…
Another stupid one from Dossena
Great dive from Welbeck. Where’s the yellow Atkinson?
Suarez cheats at life. What was that? How does that go in?
Other than a moment of brilliance by Altidore this game is just shooting practice for Chelsea.
Tim Howard with a sick handling of a bouncing ball right on the line with Rooney baring down. Scoops it, precisely drops it when when he crosees the 18. Very impressive in slow motion.
bearing down.
Chelsea respond.
And Suarez just hit a wonder goal from 40 yards out off a volley!
Welbeck punching players in the head to win the ball… causing blood to spill and Welbeck gets the advantage?
Manchester United baby. We punch you and you get in trouble!
YES!!!!!
and barely and room, class goal from Jozy
worth noting that the free kick was also from a foul on jozy.
Jozy Goal!!!!!!!!!!
55 seconds in and Gardner has already managed to ignore a wide open Jozy screaming in on the left. Jozy looks great though. Winning everything. Won’t matter unfortunately, with the cr@p around him.
ugh, and they’ve already about Fletcher: “and we know he’s a better goal scorer than Altidore…” yes, one goal??
[apologies, apparently I can’t put together coherent comments today…]
From what I’ve seen, the Sunderland midfielders tend to think less about setting him up than finding ways to take advantage of the space he leaves them. Unfortunately, they’d probably get more space if they could help him get on the score sheet.
Any more calls for the Brit announcers for Fletcher in place of Jozy?
The obvious: Guzan and Howard starting.
The expected: Cameron starting
The good news: Jozy starting.
The bad news: Shea not in the 18. Parkhurst not in the 18.
The unknown: Boyd? Is he starting? Anyone know?
Bonus for Jozy: Adam Johnson not stating
oops, *starting
Game over – with Sunerland down 3-2, Adam Johnson takes the field with 25 minutes to go – no more service to Jozy
Boyd started and played 58mins. Was just subbed off. Looked good early but I only saw the first 20mins of the match.
Also Sacha started today for Anderlecht today in a cup game. He played well. They are taking spotkicks now. Match and extra time ended at 2-2. Sacha converted his kick in the shoot-out.
Was going to start with Everton today but I might change if Altidore is starting
Yeah, I have something to watch while I “work.” Come on Jozy, let’s see two today!!
