The New York Red Bulls have aspirations of making the MLS playoffs, while D.C. United would love nothing more than to put a serious dent in those playoff hopes.

East-leading D.C. United take on the Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena tonight (8pm, ESPN2) and the Red Bulls need a win to stay in striking distance for the final playoff spots in the East. D.C. United will be looking to extend their lead atop the Eastern Conference with a victory.

Tonight’s action kicked off in Montreal, with the red-hot LA Galaxy taking on the Impact (7:30, MLS Direct Kick), while the MLS night cap features the Vancouver Whitecaps playing host to the San Jose Earthquakes (10pm, MLS Direct Kick).

If you will be watching tonight’s action, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

    • There was contact. After Espindola and McCarty hit the ball, it looked like Espindola’s heel hit McCarty, maybe.

More importantly, though: in no world did that contact rise to the level of excessive force. McCarty sold it well. MG assumed something happened and bought McCart’s sell job.

      • Appeared to me that the ball was pinned between Espindola’s boot and McCarty’s chest. Hard to say for sure. Would have understood yellow but never red.

      • Like I said… “maybe”. Contact, if there was any, was glancing, and with the outside of the heel.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even understand a caution there. There’s no way that an outstretched leg is going to injury McCarty there unless he takes a boot to the face.

      • yeah, the only way i could see it even being a yellow was if the ref was trying to get the game under control. that was just a godawful call.
