John Brooks’ season with Hertha Berlin may be done. The U.S. Men’s National Team defender was reportedly dropped down to Hertha’s reserve squad after falling out of favor with coach Jos Luhukay. It appears now that reports Brooks had been cut altogether are wrong.
Meanwhile, there is no question that Will Johnson’s season with the Portland Timbers is over. Just 11 seconds into what would be a loss to Toronto FC on Saturday, Johnson went down in a tackle and broke his leg. He underwent surgery on Sunday and is expected to be out for six months.
And USL Pro has a new champion. The Sacramento Republic finished what has been a dream inaugural season with the league trophy, and seemed to strengthen their case for becoming an Major League Soccer expansion franchise.
