Diskerud narrows club search to 4, including Rosenborg

Rosenborg announced Monday that Mix Diskerud would not be returning to the club, but the U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder may not be making his way out from the team just yet.

Diskerud’s father Paal revealed that Rosenborg remains one of four potential landing spots for the 24-year-old midfielder as the two sides continue to discuss a new deal.

“Mix has recently concluded that four clubs have emerged as most appropriate for him, for different reasons,” the elder Diskerud told NRK, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. “One of them had no time to wait. One is thinking box until internal meetings Jan. 3 and 4 and one is Rosenborg.”

“Mix has offered Rosenborg new contract terms and Rosenborg has offered Mix new contract terms,” he added. “The parties are something apart, but not anymore than that I think that, possibly quite smoothly, they may be able to come to an agreement.”

Paal Diskerud says that he expects a decision toward the beginning of January, while also admitting that Diskerud’s status as a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team remains a major factor in his son’s ultimate landing spot.

“Mix has a desire to have an equally strong focus on international football as on club football in the coming four years,” he said. “It can be a challenge to play for another national team than the country playing club football in, especially if the distances are large and forward plans are uncoordinated.”

Diskerud, who has previously been linked with a move to MLS as well as Mexico’s Club Tijuana, has recently seen interest from Scottish powerhouse Celtic.

What do you think of this development? What do you expect from Diskerud in the coming weeks? Where do you expect him to end up?

  1.  “It can be a challenge to play for another national team than the country playing club football in, especially if the distances are large and forward plans are uncoordinated.”

Maybe a sign theyre considering MLS. I think theyre in for a rude awakening in terms of how difficult it is to land in the team of your choice in MLS.

      • Maybe…I guess he could play right mid in a 4-3-3 but he’s mostly a #10, and NYCFC already has two guys like that in Lampard and Thomas McNamara…who is no slouch, Very Bad Hair, or no Very Bad Hair. He impressed quite a bit last year with Chivas USA, which isn’t easy to do, and it’s why he’s still playing when a lot of Chivas USA’s roster isn’t. VERY technical guy.

I know McNamara too, by the way. He was a Clemson guy. Unless you want to tell me to try again. 😉

      • We love macnamara already. Plenty of room in Kreis midfield. His CM need to rotate anyway. Lamps has not really been a CAM traditionally, it remains to be seem how he will play in MLS.

  2. Please, not Scotland. Scotland seems to be the place US players go to fade: Boca and Edu did not seem to improve while there, even Bedoya and Beasley struggled a bit when there and only after leaving did they recover. Reyna may be the lone US player who improved while in Scotland.

Of course, Scottish football is famous for hard tackling and stout defending, that is the kind of situation Mix does not do so well in; so it might work if he can step up to the more physical part of the game.

  3. Does this make sense to anyone?

“One of them had no time to wait. One is thinking box until internal meetings January 3 and 4 and one is Rosenborg.”

  4. You would think we are talking about Ronaldo making his choice of team…Mix is a solid player but hasn’t shown he is even better than Rosenborg’s level of play. Hope he makes the right decision for himself and does well but I just don’t understand all the attention over him. Seems to be around Sacha K’s skill level, but maybe slightly more potential, but that’s about it.

      • You seem to be very defensive of Mix I see….his mother possibly??

I hope you defend all players the same way or do you just not like people who have a differing opinion of Mix and his skill?

      • “his mother possibly??”

        No, his King.

“or do you just not like people who have a differing opinion of Mix and his skill?”

Where did I say I disagreed with you about his skill level? Where did Mix say he is holding out for offers from clubs that are bigger/better (i.e., more skilled) than RBK?

P.S. I like you just fine. I didn’t like your comment.

  5. Probably reading too much into this yet Mix father’s quote “it can be a challenge…” signals a likely MLS destination? Curious once his new contract and/or club situation is settled who the 4 contenders are.

Happy New Years Ives and SBI team.

  6. Who gives a sheat? This guy acts as if he’s Lebron James. He’s just a mediocre player that is yet to prove he belongs anywhere but a third rate league.
Also, for what I read Xolos got tired of his crap and already signed somebody instead if him.

      • What 3-yr old picks through vegetables priced at at potentially $500k-2M, not to mention indirects and long-term?!

Your comment reminds me of a 5-yr old who complains because daddy took him to the grocery store and a stranger is blocking the Lucky Charms with his cart.

    • it’s not like there’s a high bar for what constitutes a worthy post here (and i don’t mean that in a negative way). if it’s something usmnt-related, it gets posted. if you don’t want to read it, don’t click on it.

the fact that you’re clicking and contributing through comments to this post only makes it more likely that stuff like this gets posted in the future.

    • Spear, help me with the comparison to James, because all I read is a guy who is negotiating contracts and his dad/manager is answering questions media persons ask. No prime-time stop-whatever-you’re-doing live TV reveal.

Also, source please for Xolos getting “tired of his crap.” Yes, there are reports that Xolos signed someone else, but “tired of his crap” sounds a helluva lot like your own words, not Xolos’.
