    • Was that wretched defending or good movement by the Ozzie scorer?

If what we saw on the Australia goal represents “wretched defending” by the US then both US goals represented even more wretched defending by the Aussies.

Does this sort of defending invalidate the goals?

How many games have you seen where a team played perfect defense and yet got scored on?

  1. Soñora’s goal was a very good shot. It’s great to have the confidence to receive the ball on a break 25 yards out and immediately take a rip that curls just under the crossbar.

    • Was thinking / trying to figure out the same thing. Just prior to losing it, he did the same turn about move we’ve seen on youtube, but its difficult to tell.

Looking forward to U20 WC to get some real looks at these kids.

  2. Maki Tall is kind of… short. Anyone know what kind of striker he is? Runs at defenders? Back to goal? Etc.

    • even Tommy Thompson is taller than Tall… damm, Ive seen where Maki was listed as 6’1, then as 5’11… Maki is very fast, for the youth teams he is ok… for the full MNT, probably not, but we could be wrong.

    • A lot of world-class strikers have been pretty small: Tevez, Zola, Messi and uh Maradona…to name a few. Not saying at all that Tall is in that company. Just saying size isn’t necessarily a decisive factor for being a quality striker. So let’s not rush to judgement one way or another.

    • Typical American attitude – we need big, tall, fast guys! Other than GK and central defender, you don’t need to be tall to play soccer. Spain won the world cup with one player in the starting XI over 6 feet.

    • Very physical player, from what I’ve read. Strong and fast. Not overly tall, it’s true, but you can be 5’11/6′ and still be a top striker.

  3. Yeah, more of a goal recap than a highlight reel (sorry, I don’t know how to reply on the mobile version of this site).

  4. Was it Pele who famously said something along the lines of: Against Italy, make a mistake and they’ll score on you twice?

  5. A little disappointed in the highlight coverage. A 90 minute match watered down into 90 seconds does not tell the tail of how the game went.

      • Not a lot of covereage was of the game. This recap is better than nothing at all. It’s possible there are no Zalelem highlights because A. He didn’t contribute anything worth highlighting, or

        B. Because of the limited coverage, they didn’t have the recourses to focus time specifically to one player who has a lot of attention to American soccer fans, but not necessarily the crew running the coverage of this game.

I would have loved to see him play though, I agree with you. Have a nice day

      • Theres a full game tape somewhere we should be able to get decent highlights for goodness sake.
I heard that TT and Zelalem both hit the post a couple of times!

    • haha yea i noticed this too, the “highlights” were literally the kickoff, the 3 goals and the final whistle… were there no other moments of good play? no other chances on goal worthy of including?!
