Many expected Didier Drogba to make an impact when he came to MLS.
No one expected this.
Drogba carried the Montreal Impact to victory once again Saturday, scoring twice to lead his side to a 2-0 win against the Chicago Fire. His sixth and seventh goals were enough to earn him honors as SBI MLS Player of the Week.
Drogba’s first and eventual game-winning tally of the afternoon at Stade Saputo was something special, as the Ivorian international powered a free kick in from distance just four minutes into the game. His second came just seven minutes later, when he used a bit of skill and power to ease past D.C. United defender Steve Birnbaum before chipping a shot up and over Bill Hamid.
Drogba’s addition to the Impact has seen nothing but success, as the team is undefeated their last six games and in position to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Drogba beat out Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi, Houston Dynamo attacker Will Bruin, Toronto FC playmaker Sebastian Giovinco and Orlando City striker Cyle Larin for SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.
What did you think of Drogba’s performance? Who stood out to you this weekend?

It’s fun watching such pure dominance on display. I was a little skeptical when he signed because of his age, but my skepticism was completely unfounded, obviously. And therein lies the proof that MLS is a big step down from the EPL.

“my wallet is fat,” said a composed Drogba after the game. “i didn’t feel a thing and I didn’t even know about it until somebody showed me this photo after the game,” he said.
You picked that picture on purpose. I blame you for all that transpires hereafter. 😛
funniest comment i’ve seen in some time….good for you!! Drogba looks indefensible which is a scary prospect for the league. You have to figure that if Montreal can keep adding pieces to this already pretty strong squad they will be making some noise for the foreseeable future
