This year’s College Cup will feature four new teams, as reigning national champion Virginia and runner-up UCLA were both eliminated in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

In the round’s most anticipated matchup, No. 10 seed Maryland used a goal by freshman Eryk Williamson to eliminate the Cavaliers from the 2015 tournament with a 1-0 result.

Across the nation, No. 11 seed Seattle U. shut out UCLA, 1-0, with senior forward Hamza Haddadi scoring the lone goal in the first half.

Meanwhile, six ACC teams advanced to the round of 16. No. 1 seed Wake Forest, as well as Clemson, North Carolina, Syracuse, Notre Dame and unranked Boston College live to play another game.

No. 4 seed Akron arguably turned in the best performance of Sunday’s action with a 6-1 drilling of Rutgers. Five first-half goals, including two from Richie Laryea, spurred on the Zips. In total, the home side outshot the Scarlet Knights 25 to 10.

  1. Eryk Williamson is a DCU Youth star and he’s looked great all season. Feel a little better getting knocked out by a goal from him..
